this site needs some kind of tennis forum
so i think i'll start it

who is your fav. player and y??
mine is Raphal Nadal
and it's all because of his awsome attitude toward every point and his amazing spin on his forehand. (not to mention his total dominance on clay courts)

hope i get positive feedback for my first topic jester

I always had a certain appreciation for Ivan Lendl, a sort of centre court Norman Tebbit with an accent always teetring on the brink of clipped Germanicus.

For sheer gruntwerk, Connors or Becker were the chaps, glory days.

McEnroe & Borg era was excellent. So many great players down the years.

A particular favourite of mine was Carling Bassett (SP?). I used to fancy her but she wasn't around very long. Saw her play briefly on court No. 1 at Wimbledon, waaaaay back in the 80's.

Probably the best player I ever witnessed was Billie Jean King. (Court No. 14 on the same day.)

Federer, Sampras and Navratilova for me.

Have been very fortunate to have see them all up close at Wimbledon over the years.
I thought no one would touch Sampras as the complete player but I think Federer could surpass him, like Navratilova he just glides around the court making it look so easy & can play every shot in the book and ones that 'aint in the book!

Also appreciate Agassi, Edberg, Mac, Borg, Rafter, Hennin-Hardenne, basically anyone with style and an all court game. Would have loved to have seen Laver play.

edited sorry forgot Becker. & yes agreed Carlin Bassett was a sort, her husband was a doubles player, well ugly ?. Andrea Temesvari (SP?) was stunning IMO & Gabriella Sabatini wasnt bad either, along with Amanda Coetzer

Sampras is still the best player there has been. Agassi's grounstrokes, Edberg's vollying and now Federer who seems to have it all, but has to sustain it for many years to take Pete's crown as world's best ever. All IMHO of course

In the 70s I thought Borg, then Macca, Becks, Pistol Pete and now Cpn Swissol - all giants of their epae and incomparable, frankly.

In a game recently against some whipper the weight of my opponent's racquet was heliumesque - my gutted anachronism felt akin to a Whirworth 9lber cannonette by comparison...

Bah!

I'll never forget Becker's 1985 triumph - 17 years only but for my dollar, the most passionate and certainly committed loon to-date.

Remember that famous flying attempted return volley?

i'm really not too too familiar with the people you speak of

i havn't really realised the tennis world until about 2 years ago

i wasn't even born when some of the people your talking about went pro blah

but yeh Ivan was good...

faderer is just too...hyped?? i think that he's kinda' like the big popular bully in tennis (no offence to him i'm sure he's a great guy)

but i still like nadal because simply the hardest worker in modern tennis

idk if you knew (or cared blah ) but rafael is actualy right handed naturally but he plays left handed because his trainer, as a kid, thought his right hand would give him more power on his 2-handed backhand.

i thought that was pretty cool

How so. Its all about timing and technique. That doesn't change no matter what happens to the equipment. Sampras was a tennis machine and dominated on nearly every surface.

His technique and timing in every area of the game, is better than anyone i have ever seen. Federer deff has the ability to surpass him. Nadal will dominate on Clay, but on every other surface, Roger has the edge, especially Grass
