My hero! Nev was the greatest that I have ever seen. If it wasn't for the fact that he played for the fact he played for Wales, he would have been as much a household name as peter Schmeichael (sp?)

A legend!

Anymore for anymore?

I'll put another vote in for big Nev Southall. An awesome keeper.

One of my alltime favourites, amongst Shilts and the Great Dane.

Got another one for you...

Steve Bull, for dedicating himself to one club at the expense of his own personal glory when he could have taken the money and run... plus, he scored against Scotland in the 2-0 win at Hampden Park in 1989!

Robin Friday.

The greatest footballer you never heard of. Up there with George Best. Would have been an England superstar if he had left the birds, booze and drugs alone.

Titter all you like you heathens. This guy was so good that years after his untimely demise some bloke from Oasis wrote a book about him. And the Super Fury Animals (wtf are they?) wrote a song about him.

I used to stand on the terraces at Elm Park in the 70's mesmerised by this guy. He would beat a defender, stop and have a fag and a swig and wait for the poor sod to catch up and then beat him again. (Well it seemed like that to an impressionable 14 year old). Reading had scouts from all the top clubs looking at Friday but his repuation for wild behaviour, drug taking etc.. frightened them off.

He was dead at 38. Tragedy.

never heard of him but sounds like a shooting star.

did he ever play against bestie?

I dont think so. He is a legend among Reading fans, even those who never saw him. I think he was voted greatest ever player by the supporters club recently.

The tragedy is that had he been around today he would have been looked after, kept on the rails and would be a superstar multi millionaire.

Great save, but it had actually been blown for a foul, so even if it went in it wouldn;t have counted. Would have been more impressive had he done it when the ball was actually in play!

He used to flick goalies V-signs after he'd scored against them.

Beat me to it, an absolute legend. There wouldn't be a Wolves any more if it wasn't for him. By all accounts, an absolutely top bloke as well.

Add to that the fact that we bought him from West Brom, of all people, for about £60k (and that was a deal for 2 players), and you have a firm fan favourite.
