Anyone see the highlights on Match of the Day last night? It contained one of the worst fouls I've seen by Thatcher on Mendes, he nearly took his head off.
What's the beautiful game coming too when a player can leave his opposite number unconscious and fitting on the floor and get away with a yellow card?

Man City?

Looks like you have to actually kill someone to get sent off.

Aargh, yes, Man City. That'll teach me to have a paper open with Bolton staring me in the face when I type.
Could someone change the title?

Yep...I saw it...

A ing disgrace, the dirty barstard. He'll surely get a ban - or even charged with assault.

One of the worst challenges I've ever seen, reminded me of Harald Schumacher's obsene challenge on France's Patrick Battiston in the 1982 World Cup.

What gets me is.....if he had gone in hard at the legs - with his legs...I could be convinced to think "ah well, hard challenge, maybe a bit dirty"

But he went in with a raised elbow, thrown hard into the head....plus the inertia of his running at full pelt.....totally unacceptable.

I can't find a clip of Leonardo on Ramos, but I've seen Schumacher on Battiston, and Thatcher's challenge was just as bad IMO. The guy came steaming in and basically elbowed him full in the side of the head. Under no circumstances can you say it was nothing at all.

Forearm smash to the jaw running at full pace.... it quite seriously could have killed him!

The FA needs to ban him for a considerable time, but (correct me if I'm wrong) doesn't this now fall into their ludicrous black hole in disciplinary proceedings as he was already booked?!!

Statement from the FA due shortly, so we will see!!!!

I'm sure it will have to. Rather like the fella that stamped on Giggs at the weekend.

But as it's the FA I'm sure they will come up with a completely random decision.

The FA "may" have to look into it rolleyes

.... meanwhile, Manchester police are investigating it, so he may well end up getting charged with assault!

The incident was captured by television cameras but video evidence cannot be used to retrospectively upgrade a yellow card.

A Fifa spokesman confirmed to BBC sport: "It is one of the fundamental rules of the game that the referee's decision is final.

"Therefore, if it is his decision that an offence warrants a yellow card, that cannot be changed later by somebody else."

Ah FIFA.

FIFA and the ICC. Why do the governing bodies of all of our sports have to be run by ccensoreds?

Thought so..... it would have been better it the ref had done nothing, at least they could then have admitted the video evdience and thrown the book at him.

Which will be a disaster for football (and rugby). Keep it on the pitch.

I see what you're saying here......but:
The fact that its 'on the pitch' canno be a catch-all for any violent acts...

Bottom line is, if you're going to do something like that - you shouldn't be on the pitch.

The FA have tied their own hands now, besides - its a physical assault...nothing to do with football...

Usually I'd agree with keeping the cops out of sport.

But if I led with my elbow at my place of work (which can get pretty heated) I'd get the book thrown at me.

I don't see why an assault on a football pitch should be excepted.

Further... what would you suggest we do if someone was killed or suffered permanent disability!

One thing is for sure, the FA need to sort their stupid rule book out! irked

Maybe it's because I've only seen it on youtube, but to me it looks exceedingly clumsy rather then this out and out assault which everyone is yelling about!
