Got any favourites?

I was watching a documentary thing on the 2nd Ashes Test a few days ago. All the tension. Them needing 7 runs to win, then hitting a 4. Brett Lee hits one very cleanly, and it looks as if it's heading for the boundary, but it goes straight to the fielder and they get a single. 2 runs left. Harmison tears in and bowls a brilliant bouncer to Kasprowich. It hits his glove, and Geraint Jones takes a brilliant catch.

The two emotions were so big. England were ecstatic, and the Aussies were distraught. It was amazing that we'd won, but seeing Freddy Flintoff comforting Brett Lee was such a fantastic sight, a real credit to sport in general. I don't usually get worked up about sport, especially replays, but seeing that coverage again with the original commentry, almost made me cry. Sad, but true.

Any other brilliant sporting moments, which made you unusually emotional?

Behing the goal at St James Park, in May 1968 when Manchester City beat Newcastle United 4-3 to clinch the league championship, with Bell, Lee and Summerbee etc.....

Seemed like half of Manchester had crammed in the ground that day, and at the end even the Newcastle fans were chanting for City......

Unforgetable......

Goran Ivanisevic winning Wimbledon was fantastic to watch. An absolutely incredible achievement which had me hiding behind the sofa and nervous as hell watching it.

Rugby World Cup/Ashes were both unbelievable to watch too

Dean Moxey hitting that 40 yarder against Doncaster Rovers in the second round of the FA Cup two seasons ago that gave Exeter City a third round tie away at Manchester United. Course, we then went on to draw that game (in front of 67,500 people - by far and away the biggest crowd ever to watch an ECFC game) and get them back to the real St James' Park for a replay. That January was just mental.

And almost made me fail my A levels due to spending too much time watching/thinking about/talking about football

Won goal of the round IIRC? Cracking strike. Where's TyreSmoke now!

I'm a big swimming fan, best race I've ever seen was Pieter van den Hoogenband holding off Ian Thorpe in front of Thorpe's home crowd to take Olympic gold and world record in the 200 free in Sydney. Adrian Moorhouse's gold by 1/100th of a second in 1988 was pretty exciting too.

Michael Johnson running 19.32 was just incredible as well.

I think he actually won 'player of the round'. Then our keeper, Paul Jones, won player of the round for the third round with his display against MU. All of the players of the round were then invited as guests to the Millenium Stadium for the final. How unique in that a little non league team like ours had two representatives on that day..

Before my time unfortunately

Amazing how such a 'little' team is getting more people posting about it than any other on here.

Edgbaston test last year was very special. Another cricket (and Warwickshire) moment was the Nat West final at Lords a few years ago, can't remember the year. Warks v Sussex; Sussex batted first and got a record 1 day score of over 320. Warks in reply got a great century from Asif Din, but the real moment was the final ball of the fifty overs, two runs needed for Warwicks to win. Roger Twose was I think the batsman, facing his first ball, and the Sussex captain took literally five minutes in the gloom to set his field. All 20,000 in the ground were standing, there was an eerie, tense silence. Twose smacked the ball over the infield for the two runs, and Warwicks won a famous victory. Who said cricket is boring?

Sorry, no exciting Exeter City stories, though I do remember WBA 6 Exeter 3 a few years ago (1992?).

May 2005:
European Champions League Final
Liverpool vs. AC Milan.
Watched the match at uni with a load of Liverpool fans. 3-0 down at half time but somehow everyone kept believing. The fans in Istanbul sang 'You'll Never Walk Alone' during the break and the boys came on in the second half to give us the greatest comeback I have ever witnessed. The night out after the match was unforgettable with every bar and club playing You'll Never Walk Alone and me with an army of Liverpool fans directing the singing from on stage.

Given it was a fantastic goal. But on the televised replay at Sid James Park (what a carry on!) why oh why was it necessary for the saddo ECFC fans to sing 'are you watching Plymouth Argyle?' - and before you get all excited and say I was, yes I was because I have a passing interest in all our local teams after Argo.

Can you tell me where all the estimated 10,000 ECFC 'fans' were the following week after the excellent result at Old Trafford? I have it on good information that only 54 travelling fans went to support their heroes at Dagenham and Redbridge

I know it will never last, but remind me; how many league places between PAFC and ECFC today??????

Probably cheaper to use this site than set up your own online fanzine considering the small numbers involved. You should contact the Guinness Book of Records - all your fans on one site! Perhaps you could share Torquay's phonebox for a fan meet pre-match?

he Ashes series last summer! fantastic! got the full DVd of it, and it's still unreal to watch. Second would be more personal, but Evertons 95 FA cup win, against all odds! Thrashed Spurs in the semis, (even though they were absolute favourites), and then rideouts header in the final! grand stuff!

Sort of a different type of sporting moments...

Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost embracing on the podium at the 1993 Adelaide GP, the final race of Prost's career.

Seve Ballesteros hugging Nick Faldo on the 18th green after Faldo beat Curtis Strange in the singles at the '95 Ryder Cup.

Cov City, 1987 FA cup final, Houghton's diving header. Everyone from Coventry remembers Motsy shouting "HOUGHTONNN!" as he dived for the ball. Say it to anyone from the city and they'll know exactly what you're talking about.

Aside from that, Mansell *finally* winning the world championship, Dennis Taylor winning an incredible black ball finish against Steve Davis, England 5 Germany 1, and Liverpool's recent European cup win.

Best moment this year for me was Button finally breaking his duck, and proving everyone wrong who said he'd never win one - me included.
