So is McClaren better to start off with a clean sheet, or perservere with the old guard, such as Gary Neville etc???........

I dunno Stacey - Beckham, whether you like him or not, has a wealth of experience and can bring alot to the midfield of a new up and coming England team. Not in playing, but certainly in training.
I think he would be best still reamining in the squad but not playing - that way he's around for training. Let us not forget that in football terms he's getting on now so it has all been the right decision for many reasons.

Clean start, get rid of all the "I'm too popular to be dropped" lot and start fresh with the younger lot.
remind me again please, how does the offside rule work?
if the attacking teams most forward player is ahead of the defending teams last defender then they are offside, and you cant be offside from a throw-in or when you are in your own half.

He's past it now, hasn't got the pace or the skill going forward, the only thing he was on the pitch for was corners and free-kicks and in my mind that isn't enough.

I don't go for this 'bin him he's too old' nonsense. Beckham is still a class act and, IMO, still warrants a starting place in the side. Same as Gary Neville for that matter.
It would be nice to see Beckham getting 100 caps too, he's carried the team enough on his own to deserve it.

Carried the team where exactly? The team haven't been anywhere, that according to Becks and his lot, they should be. The squad he picks now should be pretty much the squad he would be picking for the Europeans, give the squad time to gel as a team, and let the younger ones play or we will end up with a totally inexperienced team when the older members leave or get chopped.

Beckham played aboslutely spectacularly for Real Madrid at the end of last season.
That's going to give McClaren problems if he continues to do so. All the commentators will keep banging on how he can't continue not playing an on form Beckham and it will get nasty for him.
Only question is can Beckham maintian his form until Euro 2008?
I can also see him being a bit of a disruptive force against the new captain - baptism of a fire and tough times ahead for McClaren, he's got to prove himself right and Ivan Capello wrong...

I can see him spitting his dummy out and not being supportive at all to Terry. By the time Euro 2008 comes around he will be 33 and even slower than he is now, chuck him out now and let the youngsters (she says being 22) have a chance and build up experience before 2008

I hear that - either Lennon or SWP on the wing starting from next week

Also, if the ball is passed backwards to you you can't be offside. Dont forget that one!

Beckham seems to have lost his place in favour of a lot of average players.
Brown, P Neville, Downing, Jenas, Richardson, Ashton and Bent.
Whose going to be brave enough to be the first to say "Bring back Sven"?

Good for McClaren - hope the press and pundits don't beat him up too badly.
Finally someone with balls is at the helm.
Dear God, it's started already.

IMO right through the qualifiers to Japan for starters.

Really? Genuinely, I cannot see where this is coming from. Where is your reasoning or evidence to suggest Beckham would act as you both suggest above?
