Those were the words of Zinadine Zidane when asked to justify his head butt. My question. What words could they have been?

I'm thinking the bloke called him a "son of a bitch", which is not overly insulting in a game of football. However, red mist descends and to justify his actions he twists it to be an insult on his mother and sister.

Any other interpretations.

He came from the slums and he just went back there.

Even Michael Carrol woulln't be daft enough to assault somebody in front of 72 TV cameras!

The "As seen by the Italians" one makes me laugh more every time I look at it.

TBH, if I were going to do something that would cost my team the World Cup and result in my vilification across the globe, I'd have at least broken the er's nose.

According to the BBC lip reader person they reckon that Matarazzi wished a horrible death to him and his family or something like that, bearing in mind his mother is ill it's not pleasant.

Personally I like Zidane and loved some of his football, def the worlds best player for quite a few years imo. Must have been something pretty horrible to wind a placid player like him up.

If my mother had been taken to the hospital and someone said something along the lines of "I hope your mum dies", I think I would have done a bit of damage, cameras or no cameras. It wouldn't have stopped at one headbutt either. So I commend him for leaving it at that and not throwing some studs in to polish things off.

I do hope you posted that for some kind of reaction, rather than actually believing his actions were justified.

He lost his temper. That's all there is to it. It's not to be lauded or condoned, but it is totally understandable.

Hands up who hasn't snapped and lashed out at someone either physically or verbally?

Thought not...

Expecting someone never to have shouted at someone else is rather a big call. But I haven't hit anyone since I was a schoolboy.

Maybe the answer to stress relief is to thump somebody, I don't know.

I haven't lashed out physically... yet, and I don't have a go verbally in front of other people. But then, I'm not a famous person that kids look up to and learn what kind of behaviour is acceptable.

Fair enough. As I said, I wasn't condoning it. Just suggesting that it was understandable. And as for rolemodel etc, that doesn't really come into play in the heat of the moment - if he'd been in total control of his actions, he wouldn't have done it in the first place, role model or no.

(by the way, neither have I ever hit anyone, I'm far too chilled for that )

Actually defending the honour of your family is quite an understandable thing to do.

Of course he shouldnt have done it on the pitch etc etc, and he may have spoiled frances chances etc etc. but so what?

Would you let someone say that to your face, especially if your mother was in hospital at the time?

BTW

Im not algerian,Im British and I cant really call myself a muslim either.

I thought you might relate to him being from the slums...I mean you are the one claiming poverty all the time arent you.

(which means you cant be paying much tax)

Oh before I forget, lots of people think you are a nazi.. on the Northern view of 7/7 thread.

You might want to stitch together some sort of pathetic reply.

peter...the point is the other guy was trying to wind him up to take a key player out of the game...if someone who never knew my mother/sister made comments about then to wind me up, i would honestly find it amusing they were so weak and shallow...worth a wink and perhaps blow a kiss....but not a headbutt......that is why i don't think the guy is a role model to children...and my response does not relate to race or religion, just ignorance which there is no need to give credence to.
