He maybe the 'voice of football' but I'm fed up of his constant negativity, he rarely has a positive thing to say about England and when teamed up with Lawrenson they're like a couple of moaning old men. They make stupid jokes and then sit chortling away to themselves.

What does everyone else think? Who would you want to commentate?

Motson is losing it. He makes mistakes on facts and figures regularly which is a shame, that used to be his forte. He makes all kinds of comments that just make you think, "What is he talking about?" Yesterday's classic that we should play for penalties after Rooney got sent off. That worked didn't it John!
Don't get me started on Lawrenson. He talks rubbish, makes jokes that make you groan and generally says nothing of value.

Also why do commentators insist on telling us that the central defenders have come forward for every single corner or free kick and the threat this poses. How many times has Rio ever scored from a corner?

I have started watching the big games with the sound off and my favourite CD on instead. You know who the players are and what is going on so it makes for better viewing IMO.

We have started doing this as well and do our own commentary

The Motty stream of facts and figures has, for me, exceeded it's sell by date. Lorro is not a good foil for him but is a good pundit if teamed with the right man. And I'd say that that man would be the ever excitable J Pearce.

I would personally shoot 'the match is ruined as a spectacle' Pleat as a pundit, too.

I'd also say that Barry Davies is nearing the end of his pomp and that the future is.............Clive Tyldesley

Thought he was gonna have an orgasm whenever Shrek got the ball. "Rooney!!!! ...Very good" when he picks the ball up in the centre circle and lays it off.

But does Crouch get credit for carrying the ball back to his own half, evading pressure from three portuguese? No "Dont know what he was doing there".

When you are justifying Rooney's attitude, just think on: the more you feed the monster with hype, the bigger and scarier the monster will become. The guy needs to take a chill pill. In fact, both Motson and Rooney do

I think Alan Greene and co on 5live to a good job. Doesn't the magical "red button" allow you to change the commentary?

I absolutely agree...!!!

Totally 100% - you are right...

He used to be my favourite by a mile, even at the start of this world cup [!], but as you rightly say, he is so horribly negative it ruins the game.

That along with the cheating shits on the pitch...

*I do find Lauro funny though....

We cant do the red button thing anymore on our cable - I think it only works on "digital satellite". With the radion on and the tv volume down, the tv is a few seconds behind, too, which takes getting used to

Totally - we switched to the Five Live commentary just to get away from him.

Truly terrible.

Alan Green is head and shoulders above Motty. Press the red button for R5, but I reckon the radio commentary is still a fraction ahead of the pictures....

Well it will be - the digital feed for pictures is delayed by processing.

Watch it on terrestrial and get a radio.

A mate of mine calls them the Motson luvvies. Beckham used to be the apple of his eye, and to a lesser extent Owen. Then Gerrard received all his praise, only to be replaced by Lampard. Now it's - of little surprise - ROOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYY(!!!!!).

Highly annoying, and surely should be dumped. Highly unlikely though.

Well seeing as Barry davies gave up doing footy a couple of years ago I think you're probably right.

Bring back Keith Macklin or Hugh Johns ...

failing that, thr true master ... David Coleman.

Kempes ... 2-0
