He's there representing England, not Wayne Rooney. His behavior is totally unforgivable.

Martin.

I believe he's recently been granted the freedom of the city of Lisbon. A true (Portuguese) national hero.

It is dispicable (sp?)...you push someone, you get sent off. It was a harsh card but that doesn't excuse his behaviour. I think he should play for England again, of course, but I do think his repremand should be severe.

Why oh why oh why bother...they were just trying to wind him up.

Treading on the guy when he was down was despicable!

If they get sent off, they should not get paid for the match!

I dont think he was even getting a card before he pushed that Twit Ronaldo.

Of course he should play again IMHO, he'll learn, And i dont think they actually get that much for playing for England( compared to there premership wages)

I was standing gob-smacked in the bar along with everyone else this afternoon trying to work out how it could be possible that he got sent off for a tiny shove. Just seen the highlights and the replays of him stamping on the other guy's soft and tender bits right under the nose of the ref!

But in the replay it doesn't look like it was the 'stamp' he got sent off for. The ref was giving a free kick and was not even remotely reaching for his pocket. It was only once the push had been made he instantly went for his pocket.

Without doubt, the card was for the shove.

He actually got sent off for the push on Ronaldo not the foot in the nads incident, and to be honest if you want him banned for that, then Totti should be for his behaviour against the Aussie's, Henry for his face clutching etc etc.

As far as i am concerned the cheating displayed by players (including english) is worse than a stamp on the nads, and i am still not convinced it was intended.

Most foreign players would have hit the floor rolling around trying to get a player booked in that situation. At least he played like a man

Well if he stamped me like that, I'd knock the stupid cnnt out. Who cares what the technicality was - they are crap, he is a violent criminal. The world cup can do without them.

No different to Beckham against Argentina. Maybe Rooney will be a hate figure for a while, as Beckham was, but people will get over it. Red card seemed harsh if it was just for the shove, although had the ref SEEN the testicle squashing episode he'd have walked anyway, so it's as broad as it is long.

That aside, pretty poor game all round, although I thought Crouch and Lennon did well. The minute it went to penalties you just knew what would happen.

Ronaldo should start looking for a new club......he is an absolute disgrace to the Man Utd shirt!!

He started, even before the kick off, goading Rooney.

Rooney didnt stamp on the Portugeezers privates on purpose he was fighting for the ball between two Portugese players....... ( good trick though as he had got away with it)

He was actually red carded for pushing the play-acting Ronaldo away.....

Alan Shearer summed it up nicely when he suggested that Rooney and Ronaldo may have a chat ( I think he said "put one on him" ) in the Man Utd dressing room.

I await the reception Renaldo gets from the Man Utd Fans with interest.......

I think he will be as welcome as a Scouser in the Arndale centre !!

Cheers,

Tony

Err ... that's a bit harsh. Thought England would have gone through, but Rooney handed it to the other guys. His tackle (!) made me feel sick.

No Rooney fan particularly, but looking at the incident a few times I'm still not at all convinced he deliberately stamped on the guy. There were legs and arms everywhere from all 3 players fighting for the ball and one of them was just unfortunate.

I suspect the ref did see it all and called it thus - free kick, no cards.

Then Ronaldo got in the refs face (along with half his team mates) and after all the goading, and the poor performance thus far, Rooney's fuse blew. EXACTLY as Ronaldo knew it would.

The wink afterwards? The butting at the start of the game? I wouldn;t want to be him turning up for training at Man Utd (wouldn't surprise me if someone of his moral fortitude didn't turn up).

Like I said, was no Rooney fan pre-tournament, but believe he was very harshly treated in that particular incident.

The level of sportsmanship in this tournament is a disgrace. FIFA must stamp it out now or the game has no proper future IMO (kids everywhere will be play acting rather than playing the game).
