Thought as much, not really surprised by the news... the way the knee popped it suggested that the cruciate had given way, and from personal experience I can tell you that it hurts like buggery!!!

Now where's that fifth striker?!

I wouldn't be devasted.

I'd laugh my socks off that I'm being paid X million per year to lounge about!

Whats even better, we just Chopra for peanuts

And a starting line-up of Ameobi and Luque...

It was reasonably clear when he went over that it was bad. It looked nasty as he fell, and the camera man followed the ball but you could instantly see Owen crawling off in the bottom of the picture. Much like Shearer's injury at Sunderland, they both aren't the sort of player that goes down and stays down (or crawl off on all fours) unless they know its bad.

We thought he was fit. He said he was fit. This new, horrible injury has come from nowhere.
The man appears to be a gentleman and the consummate professional. I loved his quote about having broad shoulders before last night's match. He does, and he'll need 'em. Far from being someone who is in it to sit back and watch the money rolling in, Owen cares about his teams, is a man of his word, and happens to be an exceptionally talented striker. He's not been 'disinterested' this year - when he's not been scoring goals for the toon he's been fighting to get back in shape for club and country.
We don't see him inviting Jordan to marquee parties; we don't see his wife writing crappy shopping columns in horrid rags.

With regard to Newcastle's situation, it's rather a shame we let Liverpool in on Bellamy without getting him back for some Glenda-style disciplining. Now instead of spending c.£6m on the Welsh tearaway we'll invest 30 million in Ronaldo. He'll come for the free Greggs cheese and onion pasties.

...Although having said that, in 'Fenomenon''s position I confess I'd be making big, Brazilian eyes at the ladies behind the counter at Milligans

Sven has mentioned that Joe Cole could fill in as a striker, he's on form, confidence high etc. Seriously anyone who can accurately shoot, run and pass can do a strikers job so I don't know what the fuss is about.

dis·in·ter·est·ed ( P ) Pronunciation Key (ds-ntr-std, -nt-rstd)

It means precisely what I thought it meant

His goal yesterday certainly is testament to that ability but he's at his best breaking from midfield.

Possibly play 1 up front and have 5 in midfield with two pusing up front aggresively would work. Gerrard and Cole to support lankey donkey.

If you look closely, the way that he actually shaped up to pass the ball was all wrong. He was unlucky to get the injury of course but sometimes players can help prevent certain injuries by passing the ball properly. If he was at the height of his powers and confident with his football, I doubt he'd have got the injury.

Then again I might be talking total rollocks.

He has been "free from bias" while playing football???

To quote the dictionary "In spoken and sometimes written English, disinterested (impartial) is used where uninterested is meant. Careful writers and speakers avoid this confusion."

I suppose we could add to the confusion by extending expressions of the type "he's partial to a cup of tea" to include "he's impartial to a cup of tea" for those who don't like that beverage.

Dunno about Torres, but van Nistelrooy is a definite possibility from what i'm told.

I don't think Torres will head to Newcastle as he will probably want to play in Champion League next season.
