Or at least it should be, because there is very little footbal being played...

As an absolutely dedicated football fan...I am beginning to find the games unwatchable.

Players are going down constantly, all players, for all teams...falling...jumping...dropping to the floor in an attempt to draw fouls and gain any advantage when they are losing the ball or running into a dead end.

The only time the players are up on their feet is when they are surrounding the ref to moan, shout and poke him......minimoking every foul to be a card....miming that every contact was an elbow...trying to get players sent off - cheating.

The refs themselves are apalling....there is no consistency...and none of them can control the game...

ing awful....

Fair point.....

But the players asking for cards etc is a newer thing and the refs losing control is a sortable problem....

Brazil v Aus has been the best game I reckon - others very mediocre and not what I would have expected to see from the world's top teams.

Possible everyone will hit form in the next round and liven things up considerably.

I just think the players attitudes and the referees ability have hit an all time low....

Yeah, you`re right on those points. There`s some refs from "lesser" countries in games with big-time players, who know all the tricks. They`re just not up to it. I think football could learn some lessons from rugby. It`s a shame Collina`s not around anymore...

Yes and yes....

It would have been worth changing the rules for refs to let Collina have some of the bigger games...
And rugby refereeing should be the model for footy to be developed towards

Twas quite funny in an earlier match when a player asked for the opponent to get a card and got a card himself. A bit more of that logic would stop players asking for opponents to be booked!!

Speaking of cancelled, there was mention during the France match tonight that Togo might not play their match against the Swiss tomorrow as they are in dispute over pay (the Togo manager has already resigned DURING the tournament over a pay dispute as well). Shouldn't they just be kicked out and their results expunged and let the money grabbing w@nkers fight it out amongst themselves at home?

Plus this isn't the first time in a world cup that appearance money and bonuses have been raised, so shouldn't there be a rule that by a certain deadline (say a month before the tournament kicks off), all payments and bonuses are agreed, otherwise that team won't be competing and the next legible team will in their stead?

I have noticed this time around that free kicks are being given for absolutely nothing. A player cannot even so much as look at anotehr player without the whistle blowing and the continuity of play stopped for another free kick. It spoils the game IMHO

There's a lot of quality referee's who have been left at home in order for the silly rule of just picking out a referee from each country. Hence having some very sub-standard referee's over there

They [FIFA] should have been all over this months ago...

The 'new directives' that they have employed are worse than useless......perhaps if they spent less time flogging black market tickets on the side......?

The Sunday Times (Jol?) made a good point in sating that S$M didn't even try to tackle the Argies because they thought they'd all pick up yellows and go out. So they let them string 24 passes together.
No-one wants to see crunching tackles but some would be nice.

Ahh, American style sport. Three seconds of action and five minutes of hanging around...I can see why you're fond of it.

Brazil - Australia was awful refereeing. To be fair to the Brazilians, it wasn't their fault, but the ref blew every time they touched a blade of grass. The games are fast becoming unwatchable. Too many yellows, and so many of the big decisions are completely wrong, especially from the linesmen.

Still, it's the World Cup. Refereering and Ronaldo are two R's of the modern tournament.

Don't agree with that. The problem is that the Togo players were officially promised this bonus money and once they got to the World Cup, it mysteriously vanished. I agree that it shouldn't get in the way of playing their matches, but if players are messed about over bonuses then this is not right. To be honest though, they didn't exactly play like they deserved much in the way of bonuses today!

Right....

Portugal Vs Holland WC 2006

What a disgrace....it would have been better WITHOUT a ref, what a joke - was it his first time on a football pitch then?

What a total embarrassment for the game....

What a joke....
