Heard rumours that the huge screens may not be showing anymore football at Canary Wharf because of a massive fight that kicked off during the Englan match resulting in several arrests...

Is this true?

Heard the same. There are signs up around the area not saying it is "Closed until further notice". As I'm not a football fan I don't care, in many ways I'm happier that their not going to show the games!

It was either on the news or in Metro this morning - can't remember which. There were some arrests - apparently up to 200 people were involved in a fairly major scuffle after some 'well-lubricated' fans started throwing bottles around...

I suppose the danger is that some of the people watching at these screens will be the hooligans banned from travelling to Germany.

Apparently in Birmingham, on police advice, they switched the tv screen over to French Open Tennis !! - I bet that calmed everyone down !!!

I've heard it was caused by rival West Ham and Millwall fans having a pop at each other. There was some serious sun out there too - can't have helped!

Dont know the facts, but most likely Hammers & Millwall

Not condoning this in anyway, but I cant beleive they didnt consider that this location would attract troublem with known hooligans, east london / south london plus all day boozing & sun = a recipe for disaster.

Sadly trouble often happens betwenn rival groups of so called fans at domestic England
games and those over seas. My brothew in law had the misfortune to be caught on train
after leaving Wembley one year when Wolves and Leeds fans went at each other.

Even worse half of this stuff is pre-arranged as in Nottignham recently a group of mansfield & yeovil fans caused chaos in mass brawl in a pub away from the grounds during lunchtime. Mansfield were not even playing that afternoon, Forest were ! Lots of families caught up in it. Lucklily they arrested most of the cluprits.

Complete idiots !

What is it with these tw@ts? Saw in the local paper today that 3 pubs in Brighton were closed early by the Police on Saturday due to mass brawls. And when I went out to get a paper on Sunday morning, I saw that 4 cars in my street had had their wing mirrors kicked off (all on the pavement side)...
