This isn't to do with the world cup!

first of, this ain't to do with world cup thread, as that'll be over in just a month!
no, i'm talking about how you'd setup england over the following NEXT 4 years, an ever more in fact.

for me i'm pissed as to why they dont just use a 3-5-2 formation from now on, for then they get an extra midfielder.
an that way they'd also get all their fancy attacking midfielders + a needed holding player to protect the defense - simple!

i also thought up a formation several years ago an call it 3-2-3-2.
an so this is how i'd set it up with the present players...

[gk]- robinsion
[3]- g.neville, ferdinand, a.cole
[2]- carrick, gerrard
[3]- beckham, lampard, j.cole
[2]- rooney, owen

nb-
future replacements - sw.phillips for beckham, l.young for g.neville

ps - an no fukking way would d.james an p.neville be contenders !

so who else here has any other bright ideas on formation/players for this subject...?

well duhh, but what about AFTER the bleedin world cup?

think about it, win or lose, englands team will still exist after the '2006 world cup' has ended.

an so a new era will start - its steve mclaren time.

personally, i backed him, for partly reasons of his formation choices, which is what this thread is really about an revolves around.

unless of course your'e a boring old 4-4-2 man

3-5-2 will show up a massive problem with stretching defense, think of the space between the flanking midfielders, while the defenders can stretch to cover that area for a while we're not exactly known for our stamina, and if we got up against a strong 3-4-3 or even 4-4-2, the opposition strikers would play the advantage every time, especially when the defenders are marking a player, you just need one active striker to slip through and theyre buggered.

Ahh but..
stamina isn't a problem, for england pick this up as tornaments go on.
besides its the heavy UK playing time that saps energy, an this year the squad has had greater respite, for a change.
an also, stamina is saved by efficeint playing, an this england grows into after the group stage is over.
still, i agree its a problem when their patience wears thin an the long-ball tactic suddenly appears
tho this asspect can be fixed in time, an i reckon it will.
so i'd then say for the 3-5-2 setup, stamina wouldn't be a longterm problem, for its just a matter of practice i say.

as for the other point made, well, i do see the prob, but thats why i say the 2 defensive midfielders of my setup above, would drop into any vacated space either side of the sweeper when the pressure was on.
after all, mid-fielders are there for more than just scoring goals Lampard style aren't they?

ps- an whats your formation+sqaud for 2007?

Have you entered into a Fantasy Football League?

Personally, I give myself about half an hour every week on CM5. My Telegraph FF performance is always abysmal, but on CM5 the Arsenal supporters hail me as a God after everything I've done for the Gooners.

They will also be putting up a statue of me to commemorate my achievements.

The beauty of playing crucial games on the computer is that you can always press the reset button WITHOUT saving if you're not happy with the result...

The World Cup - Or The Wayne Rooney Show?
--------------------------------------------------------------------

tho really, the main point i'm typing here, is on the rooney+owen debate, as if theyre fit enough to play, an how critical they'll be if missed.

my point being is NO - theyre not really that important - early on.

see, the thing is, as i last recall, Owen didnt score a goal in the 1st round of last two championships.
therefore would he be really missed during the opening stage?

also, tho rooney is key, who really needs him for the easier group games, where he might have got injured there anyway, an so missed all the harder an important games that follow?

so by my reckoning, you dont need owen till the 2nd round, nor rooney till the quarter or semi-finals, as england are good enough to beat most teams by then without them - tho not all, maybe, i hasten to add.

of course i know both contribute in 'assists', but surely lampards 20+ goals this season, an gerrards wonder goals, an coles skills are all you need early on?
an if you add to that peter crouchs visible an recent skills against argentina+hungary+jamaica, an jermaine defoes turning ability+quick footwork, i'm sure they could help win a few matches quite easily.

well thats my view, tho sorry for rambling a bit, but the media footie circus has got to me, an so i couldn't help but put my 2 cents into the debate.
...of course i wouldnt really be bothered to if not for media's over-attention these days.

an tho owens out now, he 'is' replaceable with jemaine defoe coz i heard managers could bring in players on stand-by if a fifa doctor rules-out their playability.

Well it's looks that finally that daft old manager has realised the greatness behind a formation that includes a holding player at centre.

for once effiecency reined throughout the squad as childish up-tempo play was swapped for patience an tactics.

an tho his 4-1-4-1 formation is still 2nd best to my 3-2-3-2 formation, at least it had a midfield anchor-man.

tho i say to make svens system work fully, the twin attacking midfielders should alternate as strikers when rooneys in the final thrid, for as he grew into his new role very well by the 2nd half, there was no one running-in to reap the rewards of his goalbox pass-ins
still, at least now all team members know what can be delivered by an increasingly match-fit lone striker for 90 minutes !

ps- my prediction for englands next game result is 2-1 to england, so long they keep carrick as an anchor-man.
i'd also not subsitute j-cole at 66mins but beckham with lennon.
tho if j.cole needed substition, i'd use w.bridge.
