Rugby League Challenge Cup final, 7th June
Discussion
Just a week to go until the challenge cup final, the first chance of silverware for the season.
I'm really hoping and feeling very confident that my team, Hull Kingston Rovers, will come out victorious on the day, but, I felt we would have beaten Leigh in 2023, so it's still a lottery in a one off game.
Having beaten all teams except Wigan this term, it's certainly in our favour, but as said, one off game, it's who wants it the most at the end of the day.
We're off to Wem-ber-lee...

Very happy. We didn't do it the easy way and tbh I thought Warrington were the better side for large parts of the match, but a win is a win.
I've waited 44 years for this (all my life), so I'm over the moon.
Abdie with me was being sang in the east stand, can't comment on the others.
Cheers!!!!!!!

I was only able to watch on my mobile while at my daughter’s dance competition.
Looked like a rather wet, up the middle fest. Reminds me of Wigan v Hull in 2013. A game for the purists.
I was genuinely convinced Rovers were going to choke another final. So I was really pleased when the try was given (clear as day to me).
Well done Mikey Lewis for nailing the conversion - all of Wembley had their eyes on him..!
Congratulations KR - very well deserved and must feel sweet after all the disappointments over the years.

Missed the game but chuffed for Rovers, it’s been a while for such a famous name. I’m a Central Park man thru n thru, but can’t begrudge the trophies being shared about - especially not when in a proper purists game
Speaking of honours, Billy B is finally getting his knighthood. Bout bloody time. Any sport, any time, anywhere- he was as good as it got.

I heard that. Amazing news..! Sir William Boston.
The first ever rugby league player knighted. And thoroughly deserved.
The man also has three statues - Cardiff, Wigan and London (Wembley)..!

I’ll preface this as a Wigan fan….
Well done Rovers. Thoroughly deserved. The way the club has gone from an easy push over home or away to the force it is now is exceptional.
I was at the Grand Final last year and the pressure got to the players (Wigan brought its big game experience). But this has been a cracking year for the Robins and long may it continue.
Congratulations and enjoy tonight. A thoroughly deserved league leader’s shield..!
(Now let’s bring on the playoffs..!)

Kind words, thank you! I think if you look at our early / mid form season, we were the team to beat. We should have wrapped up the LLS weeks ago, but defeats to Leigh, Leeds, Wakefield in quick succession almost derailed us. Some of our victories were harder than they should have been. Well done Rovers. Thoroughly deserved. The way the club has gone from an easy push over home or away to the force it is now is exceptional.

If the season was a few games longer, Wigan would have won the LLS.
I was at OT as well and Bevan French was the difference that day imo. We just couldn't do anything about him. Frankly, I can't see past another GF win for Wigan.
May the best team be victorious on October 11th! (Personally I don't think we will make the final).
I always take the view that it isn’t how you finish the season, but where you finish.
I think the GF might be a stretch for HKR, but the playoffs give a new energy as it’s knockout football.
About to watch Wigan v Leeds. Wigan’s 2nd place is locked in, but I think the Rhinos could turn Wigan over tonight. They’ve vastly improved after recent years’ poor performance. I think Leeds have it in them to find a route through to Old Trafford.

Well I clearly went into that rather the pessimist. Wigan were poor for much of the first half but Leeds weren’t at the races. Too many injuries for them or it would have been a closer game.
Still, on to the playoffs. I think HKR could realistically do the treble this season. Hope Wigan can prevent that..!

Grand final this weekend in a repeat of last season.
I didn't see the Wigan v Leigh match, and saw the first half of the Rovers v Saints match. I thought we looked good in that match with really only the try in which we couldn't put a tackle on them, which was a bit rubbish.
I am hoping it's a more fluid match this year, last year I think was spoiled by the weather a bit.
I'd love Rovers to do it, but now that Wigan have French back, I struggle to see past a Wigan win. Again. But I will be at Old Trafford supporting the team with the hope that we can do the treble!

I m not going to the match today but will be watching on TV. I was there last year - surrounded by Rovers fans - and thoroughly enjoyed the victory in grim conditions..!
It s great to have the top two teams up against each other in the final again. A brilliant showcase for the sport.
May the best team win. That team bring Wigan of course..!
ETA Have a great time at the match AngryDog..!

Well done Hull Kingston Rovers. Not the result I wanted tonight but well earned by the Robins.
Deserved winners tonight after a superb season. Forced Wigan to make error after error, maintained incredible line speed in defence and took your chances. Congratulations.
A new team on the trophy.
Let’s do it all again next season.

What. A. Match. Just got back to my brother's in Hull. I'm staggered. We kept French out of the match for much of it, which was a massive difference compared to last time out.
I thought we were the better team and deserved to win it over all.
Thanks for the magnanimous congratulations. I don't know if it was on TV, but after collecting their medals, Matty Peet led the team to our end and clapped our supporters. I thought that was very classy, but he's a classy coach.
Wigan will be back. For now, we've robbed your trophy cabinet
