There are different levels, quite often a league team will run a Sunday friendly team as well.
All clubs are looking for new recruits, so just find a contact and register your interest.
I'm sure you will get pleanty of games!

If the club is big enough they will have a side that suits. If not, village sides are always looking for players and it is a social event. Depends on the Club but why not have a go and find out. Go and watch the first match of the season and get chatting. If they are organised they might have winter indoor games organised. Get in there smile

My boys have played youth cricket for a local team for a few years.

As well as kids teams, the club ran 1’s, 2’s - down to a standard I could have played at and I’m very out of shape/never played at any level previously. I’ve seen little old men (70’s) wide as they are tall, tossing spinners down the crease at 13 yr olds drafted in to replace fellas who couldn’t make it for that game.

Find a club with a variety of abilities, be happy to play at whatever your level turns out to be and have fun.

Thanks all. Encouraging stuff.

I'll google the club and perhaps send a speculative email. Also a good excuse to frequent the pub more often.

What would be the likely expectations regarding kit/gear?
I'd wait until you've met them
They might just be very grateful for a willing body

All depends on the standard. I'd have thought most clubs would have a "club kit bag", but also don't be offended if the opening bat refuses to share his bat. Or his box.
