“The Olympics is where heroes are created. The Paralympics is where the heroes come”

Starts 28 Aug, who’s watching and what are you watching?

Australia is sending a team of c160 athletes, and we get pretty good coverage so I’ll be watching every day. Especially the swimming…

Swimming is what really got me into paralympics in London 2012. As a one time keen swimmer/triathlete it's easy to make excuses about being mediocre because you arent 6 foot 6 and dont have size 13 feet ............ and then you watch paralympic swimming.

There are some astonishing para athletes in all sports. We’ve been around a lot of swimmers and track/field athletes over the years, and they’ve all got a story to tell, some by accident…

Such as Alexa Leary in the Aus Paraswim team, classified S9. She was a very good triathlete before a bike accident about three years ago put her in a coma. The decision had been taken to switch the machine off before she stirred. Had to learn to walk again and now will be at the Paras, having taken the S9 100m world record during the Aus Open back in April.

Also a fan of Jaco van Gass, GB cyclist. Not just as an athlete - he has complete Cape Epic mtb race - but also for the support provided to up/coming youngsters, and he’s far from the only one - lots of support around.

Will their opening ceremony be as grotesque and awful as the olympics one was? That would be quite an achievement.

I'll only be watching the opening ceremony to see if it is equally bad and laugh at it. Complete waste of money IMHO

It's been a uniquely French ceremony thus far.

It’s been very boring so far, just each county parading past the camera, yawn.

Wheelchair Rugby, GBR v AUS just about as tight a game as possible and plenty of crash-bang too

We seem to be getting medals every couple of minutes at the moment - it’s difficult to keep up!

A few seconds off the relevant QTs - going to Swimming Trials was always seen as an experience thing this time - LA28 is her aim. However she knows most of the Aus Paraswim team in Paris and I think is getting her own feed of news and gossip biggrin

And as PH is a car forum, here’s a couple of local promo pieces for the Paralympics, paid for by Toyota…

There are quite a few Paralympians globally driving new Toyotas…

Track cycling - men’s C3 3000m pursuit final is between Jaco van Gass and Graham Finlay, both GBR, with Jaco having set the WR in the heats - should be a good race
