Anybody see this last night?

What an athlete and what an enigma as an individual. This programme gives us some answers I think, clearly emotionally stunted (for very good reasons) and certainly someone who had no concept of a filter laugh

Astonishing competitor though. It is about time he got more recognition for his achievements.

Yeah, loved it, found it fascinating. Few things really jumped out at me about it.

- Daley seems like a good guy, but he can be a bit blunt and crass sometimes. That press conference in LA was a classic example, the stuff he was saying about Princess Anne was actually pretty funny - but it wasn’t the right forum for those kind of jokes. You could hear the journalists laughing their heads off while sharpening their knives. Even the jokes he was making around his son were ill considered.

- His insecurity and need for validation were deeply suppressed but obviously there. They didn’t explain too much about his mother’s problems but they must have been significant. He had such a tough childhood, it’s affected his whole life for better and worse.

- You forget what an astonishing athlete he was. The volume of training he could do without injury until his body became older was quite something.

-Lord Cole is still a smug t***.

Very good watch and an amazing athlete, I did think he came across as a bit of a knob in certain ares though.
Obviously a very difficult upbringing.
Was he better than Carl Lewis though?

He certainly was by far the better all-round athlete.

Haven't watched it yet, but I will.

Hopefully it's not offensive to post this.

And more than few joysticks.

Haven't watched it yet, but I recall from a previous interview that he would train on Christmas day as he knew no one else would. It gave him a psychological edge on the start line.

All the stuck up, PC, other athletes couldnt handle him. He knew he was better than all of them and they knew it as well.

I know Lloyd Cole and he not smug at all. Also has nothing to do with athletics.

I was always astonished at their 1500M times.

These were big powerful guys and while they looked like they were jogging compared to the middle distance runners they were still posting times the average club runner could not dream of and this was after 2 days of gruelling competition.

Daley had a 1500M best of 4:22

Go try that around your local running track.

I find the whole idea of the decathlon astonishing. Events like the high jump and, in particular, pole vault require serious technique. Amazing athletes.

Daley Thompson was an absolutely superb athlete. I do wonder if he had just concentrated on the 100m and long jump how good he would have been. Apparently he was also an excellent tennis player.

Let's not cause a commotion here.
