Hi

Looking for recommendations for 'trousers' for walking. Always used cheap and cheerful jeans from ebay as mostly walked on street paths, especially in winter. When the weather was at it's worse, I'd wear my old "inner" mountain bike thermals/tights under my jeans and these worked very well to keep me warm and dry from waist down.

I'm starting to walk more and more through woods / fields (lucky enough to have quite alot of woodland on my doorstep). Trainers and shorts/cheap jeans are fine in summer, but now weather is getting worse this combo is showing it's limitations (no grip from trainers and jeans get soaked very quick from knee down).

I had a look online but quickly got lost in the amount of choice. Was looking at something like ebay link below, but have no idea what's good and what's not.

If anyone can recommend a brand/make of outdoor cargo trousers that's not going to fall apart or wear out from 1 1/2 to 2 1/2hr walks 2 to 3 times a week it's be much appreciated. I still have my old mountain bike inners for the worst of the worse weather, but looking for something a bit more suitable for getting wet and dirty than jeans. Many thanks in advance for any help given.

Craghoppers always come out well in reviews (think its the Kiwi version).

I've also used Trespass hiking trousers. They were good.
Montane Terra are good - pricey though.

I almost always turn back to my Decathlon shorts or trousers - the Forclaz range.

Yes I've got Craghoppers Kiwis. I'm on my second par. The first pair lasted about 10 years...

Brilliant trousers, and with a superb inner elasticated pocket inside the pocket on the side of the right leg, which is great for a mobile phone. Very comfortable and hard wearing. Recommended.

Brilliant, thank you.

Had a rummage through ebay and found a suitable size and colour for a decent price.

Much appreciated smile

I've bought some from Revolution Race recently. Really impressed by them. Once you've registered you will be sent lots of 25% (or similar) off discount e-mails.

I would buy from them again.

They're my dailies - I have older DIY pairs and newer "smart casual" pairs. The fleece lined ones are great for walking the dog in winter as well as if one finds oneself up a ladder. I've probably been buying / wearing them since 2012.

Judging by the reviews there's a constant process of redesign / cost saving - often the review comments are that they 'don't make them like they used to'.

Another vote for craghopper kiwis, they do a zipoff version for warm days too.

Craghopper are a goid budget option, my zip offs are my go to over the spring to autumn months.

They are not in the same league as Montane Terra etc though, you do get what you pay for.

The thing I've discovered having recently started using zip offs for the first time is that the main advantage is being able to just wash the legs and not the whole pair of trousers.
