Yes - definitely me. I get a bit exited about football sometimes, I love the big cycle races and Ironman triathlon. But the sport I'm most keen on as a sport is athletics. Men's shot tomorrow. Don't normally get exited about that but I might do this time.

Absolutely!

Was in Dominican Republic on holiday for last world champs so meant we didn’t have to get up at stupid times to watch stuff. Loads of Americans there, who had no idea/interest it was happening. My son and I went nuts watching Jake beat Jacob. I may have had a hangover the next morning!

I'll be watching.
A bit concerned for Laura Muir, she's not had the best season so far. She'll be racing Ciara Mageean for bronze at best I fear.
Neil Gourley could be good for a medal and maybe Hughes in the sprints too
I think Mu and Moraa will be at the front in the 800, I'm not sure Keeley has enough unless she just gets out and runs and is in form to do 1.55 as she was earlier in the year. I'm hoping Jemma Reekie can be there or there abouts.
Looking forward the the Norwegian contingent; Warholm and Jacob I are just great figures to watch.

The shot will be interesting. 20cm on the WR this yr isn’t it with Crouser’s new technique? I think everybody wants to see how far he can go.

Apparently he has blood clots but is still competing and could even still win. eek

I'll be watching on BBC and am glad that Michael Johnson is with them again. Other good presenters too of course, but I especially like him.

BBC coverage is appalling for athletics, there is so much going on while a load of ex athletes slap each other’s backs in the studio. They will the cover every lap of a 10000m, while you just get a glimpse of the pole vault, shot or discus etc going on in the back ground.

Eurosport gives far better coverage of the actual competition.

I don’t think the bbc control what’s shown, it’s a feed from the local provider that the provide commentary on. I guess they can cut the feed to cover the studio but if every lap of the 10pm is shown it’s because the local tv producer wants to show it

Yes - but was the mediocre start because he simply wasn't trying? I hope he can switch that on when he needs it.

As I said Eurosport manage to cover far more events, it’s very rare at an athletics competition there is dead time on the track or field. Which is far better than chit chat from ex athletes, you can do that after the track has finished or before.

Oh god yes! I was actually commenting in admiration - he was totally in control, coasted the last few metres, never looked like he was straining.

That will be because Eurosport have / own the majority rights to the event and they have numerous subscription channels that can be dedicated to cover more events, unlike the BBC that can only utilise either BBC1 or 2 (dependent on scheduling - although BBC3 is sometimes available after 7PM) and limited timed red button / online coverage.

The BBC have an agreement with Eurosport's owners whereby they're granted minor / accessible rights as part of free to air access of certain sports coverage hence why certain events are shown live whilst others will be shown part live / delayed, etc, in addition to what might be available from the local live feeds.

It's not just athletics - the BBC have a number of agreements with Eurosport that gives them access to various other sports including but not limited to certain tennis events, other athletic events, snooker, hockey, netball, cycling, gymnastics, etc.

Just found out that 400m runner Laviai Nielsen has a form of MS yikes ! Makes you wonder if she would qualify for the Paralympic team - she'd demolish the opposition.

So she does. I didn't know that. I expect she wouldn't be allowed to take part if it doesn't have a substantial effect on her capabilities though. One of my friends has known she has MS for about 15 years now and you'd never know she has it if you saw her. She certainly knows though and it does present challenges for her. Best of luck to Nielsen; even the stress of knowing must be an issue. I know it is for my friend but she says she wishes she'd known at the start how well she would be 15 years later.
