So, it's obviously bks that one shaft suits you. I listen to the pros on the Sky open zone and they talk about on some drives they’ll swing a bit slower or for a wedge they'll take a half swing etc.. Georgia Hall just said that to hit her 3 iron stinger she hits her 3 iron soft and slow and it runs almost as much as it carries. Therefore she must have the wrong shaft in her club to hit that shot. But…………...she hits a superb draw miles down the fairway………..with the wrong shaft. It’s all bks. The “correct” shaft for a slow swing speed is a “senior”, but she obviously has something stiffer and doesn’t change shafts for a particular shot. It’s all bks.

Shaft fitting isn't all about that (for amateurs), it's more about maximising the consistency/output for your average shot

There clearly is a difference between shafts. - With the flex, weight and kick point, they feel very different to me. Whether my swing is consistent enough to be able to truly benefit from it who knows.

In my case, I play senior shafts in my irons and have a high launch (kick point) graphite shafts in my hybrids. I hit a high ball flight / soft landing with all of these.

I have regular in my 3 wood and driver and it’s a lower ball flight and whenever I’ve hit other people’s hybrids, they are also much lower than mine with the same loft.

It’s not bks. Shafts do make a difference, and certain shafts have different outputs depending on your swing speed and delivery.

The pro’s are pro’s for a reason and can hit any shot with any club

Getting fitted for the right shaft for your stock shot with each club has made a difference to my game, no question. The shafts I used to have in my AP2's were just too weighty and I could never draw that ball. However, getting the right weight shaft has made it easier to draw and flight the ball. Sure, you can hit knockdown shots at as well, but that's not stock.

I had a fitting for driver last night, i was trying out a Titleist & Taylormade, i currently play a SIM 2 Max D.

Whilst i could stripe the Stealth 2, i was wayyyyy more consistent with a Titleist TSR2.

My pro was convinced i would benefit from a heavier shaft due to swing speed & some other factors about how i swing the club, however i've ended up with a 50g stiff shaft, as i struggled to launch the heavier shafts.

He put me in a regular flex by mistake & i couldn't hit it, back in the stiff, absolutely fine again (he didn't even tell me the difference between the reg/stiff mistake until after i'd questioned it).

You're ignoring the fact that they hit all of those non-stock shots for a different outcome relative to the shaft that produces the stock shot i.e. hitting a stinger with a different shaft may require a different technique e.g. ball back and swing hard with a sawn-off follow through a la Tiger...

What shaft did you end up with? I need a lighter shaft but haven't seen anything stiff at less than 60g without getting crazy prices.

In my Sim Max 2 D i have a Ventus 50 (altho it's a few years old now) & in my new TSR i've got a Hzrdous Red, i'll take a photo later.

If i'm entirely honest, i didn't need a new driver, i could of just swapped to a normal head rather than the draw bias, as i had pretty much fitted myself by buying/trying loads of different driver shaft weight combinations.

When i got the Sim Max D i struggled with losing the drives right, now i hit a natural draw shape anyway, the D version was turning it into a hook more regularly than i'd like!

It really isn't. I could have almost the same swing as my dad but the extra swing speeds and strength I have to control the face etc would require different shafts.

Be very cautious about swapping away from a manufacturers recommended list of shafts for their clubs.

I used to test clubs for a living and tens of thousands of shots are hit with every permutation before a manufacturer allows a shaft into its line up of options.

In my experience of working with players to help them gain consistency 99% would be best served sticking to the stock shaft that is sitting on the shelf.

Ask yourselves are you really in the 1%?

Club pros love to talk shafts and also mostly talk BS, but a sale is a sale.
