This popped up on my FB earlier:-

I thought it may be of interest to search for vids of the overs in question. :-

Irfan Pathan vs Pakistan (Karachi, 2006) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDKnCsCby0g

Shaun Tait vs Pakistan (Melbourne, 2009/10) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Is2bV0lVo6E

Michael Holding vs England (Barbados, 1981) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loYyJllsj68

Charl Langeveldt Vs West Indies (Barbados, 2005) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEFcXN-FYYo

Lasith Malinga vs South Africa (Guyana, 2007) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jr2UuFCNlL0

Mitchell Johnson vs England (The Ashes, 2013/14) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=De95EAZivts

Mohammad Amir vs Australia (ICC World Twenty20 West Indies, 2010) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pr_bSw0Ng0

Andrew Flintoff vs Australia (The Ashes, 2005, specifically THAT over at Edgbaston 2005) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4lWyOk6wj0

Shoaib Akhtar vs South Africa (March 2000) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfy2B_pZwm8

Wasim Akram vs Australia, 2002 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8C4zy12KbI

They're all great, but - for me - that Flintoff over where he dismissed Martyn and Ponting was just magnificent, I mean, Ponting at the time was world class, and in four balls he had no idea what to do with Freddie's bowling. Not a clue. Honourable mention for Johnson's spell at Adelaide in 2013/2014 for sheer aggression and accuracy,

Hadley's final overs to Whitney & McDermott many years ago were pretty special

Fred vs Kallis, not sure on the year, but very similar to Ashes 05 over. had the man who was the best batter in the world at the time all over the place.

Great post btw that will keep me going for an age watching them!

Between reading the initial article, searching for the vids, verifying them, and posting them up it did take a while!

A couple that spring to mind not included in the original piece:-

Brett Lee hits 161km/h in the first over Speed and accuracy

Allan Donald v Mike Atherton Speed and aggression vs Atherton's stoic poise at the crease

Can’t remember the rest of the over, but I was at the Roses match when Jordan Clark took a hat trick of Root, Bairstow and Williamson, don’t think there’s ever been a better hat trick

Thanks for these links OP, those overs from Brett Lee were absolutely scary, his runup one of the smoothest I have ever seen, up there with Michael Holding.

Two points:
When your nickname is Whispering Death, you have automatically reduced everybody else to the status also ran.
Secondly - I saw a clip once of the MasterBlaster being interviewed about Mikey and he was asked had he ever faced his bowling. He replied of course. He was then asked had he even taken him on, given him the treatment etc. Viv just stared him, looked at him dead in the eyes for what felt like minutes to me, just the straight Viv “I’m going to whack you into next week stare”, then he finally replied: Are you crazy mon?!

Always stuck with me. If Sir Viv, the greatest batsman I’ve ever seen, tells you there is no fking way he was taking on Mikey Holding - even for fun - then the question is answered.

Binga was scary as, can you imagine facing that!! Holding was just class, but I have to admit I would find it hard to face a good spinner as you have clueless at times!!

Not much said about Curtley Ambrose, so here he is taking England apart 6 for 24, all out for 46.

Loved the Ambrose one.

Just to keep the Windies fans in check; Scott Boland takes 3 WI top-order wickets in an over...

And, of course, the Gatting ball from Warne:

I was thinking about Sabina Park. That pitch was utterly lethal.

Amazed we haven't had a mention for Shane Warne yet?

Or Malcolm Marshall, if it's about fast bowlers?

I'd forgotten about that!

As a bowling performance for an innings (as opposed to one particular over), it was majestic.

It's got me thinking (bit off-topic), but wasn't Ambrose once part of a W.I. XI just rammed with talent? A lineup something like this:-

Greenidge
Haynes
Richards
Richardson
Hooper
?
Dujon
Marshall
Ambrose
Patterson
Walsh

I know I'm missing one name there, but fk me what a team.

Another contributor has mentioned "The Gatting Ball" from Warney, How about "The Strauss Ball":-

Well you have a cross over of eras for the Windies in the early 90s. Lara joined and mostly took over from
Viv. Chanderpaul joined as Viv retired.
I suspect though that you are mainly thinking of Jimmy Adams?

Larry Gomes would have been around that era too.
