Don’t learn routines. Just dance naturally. Everyone is there having fun, no one will care about your moves.

Enter the dancefloor holding 2 drinks. Move slowly to whatever tune is playing. No-one expects a person holding 2 drinks to be throwing serious shapes. Also, do this well into the night and everyone else will be too panelled to notice/care.

To me rhythm is everything. If you can at least move your feet to the beat then you are halfway there. Maybe watch the film Footloose. No really as there are scenes in the film where the hero (Ren) is teaching his best friend who has no rhythm how to dance. But going back to rhythm, just listen to practically any song and try to tap your fingers along to the beat. When this becomes easier, try tapping your feet to the beat. And then finally stand up and move from side to side, tapping each foot in time.

But the bottom line is dancing is supposed to be fun. What's the old saying: Dance like nobody is watching. And it's true. Have a look at this:

Granted the moves may be a bit advanced for most people, it's the complete joy that everyone is getting out of it.

Good luck.

I find alcohol helps a lot hehe Enough of it and you just don't care.

I watch this video and aim to be 0.001% as good, which will still make me a dance legend, probably...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kS_DvUlrukk&ab_channel=URBANDANCECAMP

I do agree with the comment about the rhythm though, even in the video above you can see their moves are in time with the music.

The dad dancing video above is fine but I think that for many guys it's a bit much. basic moves to look ok on the dance floor are enough.

(PS - would this be better in The Lounge section?)
