Looking for suggestions for the best App to put together a weightlifting program for me.

Want something that will Give me sets and muscle groups to target and record weights lifted. Have a pretty well stocked home gym with Full Rack, Dumbbells etc.

Have downloaded fitbod but it doesn't give much of a chance of seeing what it's like before having to front up cash.

thanks

Your best bet is to use youtube and look up 'how to' videos for various exercises. I've been doing these for over 25 years, so I've learnt a lot of things the hard way!

Some of my advice below if you are interested.

If you're a complete novice focus on calisthenics first to build your overall strength

-Push ups, with a variance on hand and foot position once you improve
-Pull ups, start by simply hanging to improve grip strength and lats activation
-Body squats, start by squatting parallel to ground, feet flat and shoulder width apart with weight over heel
-Dips, use a dip station and the knee pad to begin and slowly build from there, keeping your arms tucked into your sides (the same station and knee pad can be used for pull ups too)

Then move onto the compound lifts
-Weighted squats
-Overhead press
-Deadlifts, start with the hex bar and then move to straight bar. The "Farmer's walk" is an excellent exercise for building overall strength.

Some say the bench is a compound lift, but imo it isn't. The push up is by far the better exercise for overall strength, your shoulder health, your back, and your core.

Focus on the deadlift for overall strength, as that lift will allow you to lift the most, the most safely. Forget isolation work. Only do that when you're tired or under the weather or trying to strengthen a particular muscle that might be injured or weak.

Any strength gains you get from the deadlift will also improve your other lifts and overall strength/grip strength by a significant margin.

Leave at least a day between workouts too, as compound/calisthenics will use up a significant amount of energy.

Start eating additional protein and carbs if you feel sore after a workout. A mix of casein (eggs) and whey (milk derivative) along with complex carbs like pasta and rice will see you right.

Stronglifts 5x5? Has main compound lifts, and if you get the app it tells you exactly how much to lift and when?

This - it used to be just a straight 5x5 program app, but has now been expanded to allow more configuration of the exercises and sets. You can download the free version to try it out I think.

The paid version adds warm up set calculations, and the plates to use, so its not essential

Agree with this.

Thanks for the replies, I’m not a new comer to exercise trained boxing for years just haven’t really done much purely focussed on weigh lifting.

Have a decent home gym set up now as fatherhood has made it harder to get to a boxing or CrossFit gym.

I’m giving Fitbod a go for now so will report back on any gains etc

I love Fitness Ai. It’s full tailored and ‘learns’ as you progress. I love that it mixes up the routines too so it never gets old. You’re able to swap out a set if you fancy doing another routine. It’s a paid app but worth every penny.
