Six Nations Tickets (how to get them!)
Discussion
Met up with a friend who's recently been lost his job and has now been knocked back on a new one he was really keen for. He's a big rugby fan and I wanted to do something to cheer him up and taking him to the England/Wales game next month seemed like something he'd love to go to.
However, not knowing a huge amount about the Six Nations don't know how difficult it is to get tickets. A quick look and it seems £5k for a hospitality package or £1k for a couple of tickets on viagogo. Are those my only options, do (close to) face value tickets ever get sold nearer to the event, are there any places I should be looking at for secondary sales? Or have I picked an event that's pretty much impossible to get tickets for....?

England tickets are hard. (As now are Ireland)
The other nations can generally be got on public sale and I think there were still tickets available for wales and Scotland at home fairly recently. (May have changed with the relaxation of rules though )
If money is no object then I have done well in the past finding a tout on the day (we paid £500 for a pair at twickenham for sco a few years ago) . But I don’t know how this will be affected with the new e-tickets - it may put an end to it
As ever, the best way is to be a member of a local rugby club and to get them that way.

If your friend is "a big rugby fan", he will know how to get 6N tickets. However, not knowing a huge amount about the Six Nations don't know how difficult it is to get tickets. However
1. Longer term, i.e. not this year, because it's too late. Join a smallish local rugby, butter up the person who orders tickets for the club, make sure he knows you are more than interested, you are mad keen. Buy tickets through the club. Ask for more than you want, because you will probably get knocked back.
2. short term. i.e. this year.

Mostly sold out, a few available at astronomical prices - in my opinion.
3. Be very, very, careful buying tickets online, or from a bloke in the pub. You may find the barrier won't open for you when you present your ticket.
My wife yesterday was commenting that she got invited through work to a corporate box for the England vs Ireland game.
It’s a crime really as she’s not even into rugby, whenever the six nations is on she won’t even watch it on the tv and even worse . . . she can’t even take me which is a double crime and instead is taking another coworker.
When she got the email she actually thought she was going to a football match.
There must be a lot of tickets going to corporate sponsors etc depriving fans of the opportunity to go. Obviously that’s how twickenham make money though.

If I'm fortunate enough to get Twickenham tickets it's usually through people I know that have access to corporate tickets, I have tried to get tickets through Viagogo on 2 occasions and have been thoroughly let down. I won't touch Viagogo ever again.
Don't rule out a visit to Dublin, Cardiff or Edinburgh, the atmosphere is cracking and the tickets much easier to get. I've seen dozens of matches in Dublin and many of those matches from the comfort of the pub. The atmosphere is cracking, the locals are fabulous and the festivities go on all weekend.

Cheers for that, had no idea local club was the route... well, one to remember but as you both say, a bit of a long game. Was hoping to surprise mate in question, but it's a reasonable assumption he's already a member of something rugby related locally and maybe a word there might help, you never know... will also look at other games now.
Mad Monk - can't access that link, but assume its a resale site?

If that doesn't work google rfu Twickenham and then follow the links

Open question/comment
I detest organisations like Viagogo and stubhead and the like. Why support them?
Buy tickets through your rugby club at face value. If you have a ticket from your club and you can't go, sell it back to them at face value. Do not support these companies that sell tickets at inflated prices. If we all refused to buy from them, they would go out of business. Tickets are quite expensive enough anyway.
