Triathlon Training - Fuerteventura Jan-April

Hi All,

I am off to Caleta de Fuste for some winter sun at the end of Dec.

I will be making the most of the nice training conditions, and so packing running and swim kit. Question, and for those who have trained in the Canary Islands over winter, do I need a wetsuit for sea swimming, or is it warm enough to swim without?

The water temperature at this time of the year in the Canaries is about 18°C - a fraction warmer than the summer UK water temp (south coast), so it depends whether you'd use one over here in Summer.

You could quite happily get away without taking a wetsuit, but personally I'd probably take one!
