White collar boxing
Discussion
I'm going to an event in Exeter on Saturday.
Anyone ever been? Seems they run them all over the country and not just boxing. All sorts of events for charity.

Anyway, I've dusted off the dinner suit for the first time in eight years. Seems it still just about fits. Shirt has yellowed badly so ordered a new one for next day delivery.
Quite looking forward to it. Hoping the relatively high ticket price and strict dress code will keep the chavs out.

Based on my experiences, you're going to be disappointed. PeteinSQ said:
I hadn't realised non attached people went to these things. Won't the boxing basically be terrible?
Not sure what you mean? I'm going with my wife and her two friends. It has already been suggested I'll look like I'm their pimp. My wife is a member of her local boxing club and did a fight herself for charity a couple of weeks back. That had no dress code and was full of coke heads and pissed up neanderthals who spent half the evening outside beating each other up. The actual standard of boxing in that was quite good.
No idea what tonight will be like, might be just a load of stuffed shirts bhslapping each other.

Based on my experiences, you're going to be disappointed. Was still a good night though, my now Ex got a beating in the ring
Brother in law trained for something similar about 2 years ago, but it was postponed due to Covid however it's back on now for some point next year.
I was originally hoping to go as I wanted to see him get a pasting, I assumed I could pay a tenner, pop in when he was fighting and then just leave, I wasn't aware it was a proper sit down smart event, I would have been seated on a table with his mates who I don't know but I know enough too know they aren't my kind of people so "I was busy", it's back on now so I need to think of another excuse.

If it's the same as the link I posted, it's £400 for a table of ten - we were 'lucky' one of my wife's mates knows one of the boxers who had four spaces left on a table he bought. So we got the tickets for the same price as standing (£30).
I think they ramp up the pricing to dissuade chavs turning up. But I think they view it as a night out and a chance to kick off at some posh types. But also in ramping up the price, they make more for charity/can afford to pay for some door muscle.

Just checked your link, it was Ultra White Collar Boxing that my mate competed in.
There were no posh people taking part, there were no posh people watching (except me and my mates of course) and me and one of my mates were the only people in black tie.
I’m sure you’ll have fun and will be able to enjoy it, but you need to temper your expectations. For various reasons it turned into one of our most memorable nights out.
Hope you do enjoy enjoy it.

I went to a charity one. A mate in the fire service was fighting. All emergency services. My mate is a bit of lump and did very well and I thought the firemen would be the ones to beat. On the night, overall, it was the paramedics. Good boxing, some on a par with amateur.
Spectators, um....

£40 per person is not a high ticket price. I think they ramp up the pricing to dissuade chavs turning up. But I think they view it as a night out and a chance to kick off at some posh types. But also in ramping up the price, they make more for charity/can afford to pay for some door muscle.
I used to work at a hotel that hosted these events. Even fifteen years ago the price per customer was more than £40 and they were as rough as anything. Only the local horse racing days nearby could compete for bringing in total idiots.
It's comical that your going to watch people batter the crap out of each other yet you seem to want the audience to behave like there attending a library.
It's boxing it's supposed to be bawdy , your supposed to cheer for whoever you know who's fighting , fingers crossed you get someone on the card who actually throws body shots rather than a few haymakers then there knackered .
