I've been following this the past few days (now on Day 3) and it's been entertaining to watch. A few years ago Ronnie O'Sullivan was in a TV program where he went to the US to play professional pool players, but I don't recall if he played in their tournaments.

Judd Trump has went to take part and has been doing very well, but apparently today is his first "proper" opponent. It's on Sky Sports Arena but I think it's also available on YouTube - they certainly show recordings on there. I watched his first match and he took to it like a duck to water. Anyone else been following it?

Here's Day 1:

Just caught a bit of it by accident on youtube.

Can't work up a lot of interest for it though.

Is it just me or does the quality of play really not seem that good compared to the snooker?

The quality of play is quite poor but being a snooker fan (and occasional player) it's something a bit different. There's 256 entrants which seems simple enough but apparently they need to lose twice to be put out. The quality will improve as it goes on.

There was a 10 ball tournament that just ended, plus a UK Tour for 9 ball announced today, so it seems they're trying to get an audience for it.

Can never understand why even half-decent snooker players wouldn't wipe the floor with the best pool players.

Pretty sure they could , but only after a bit of practice as the balls and cues are quite different.

Trump came unstuck after he met a quality player.

He got trounced something like 11-2 in one of the rounds, then due to the double elimination rule faced another guy and lost the decider. Although he's one of the best snooker players and there's a bit of crossover, it's not just as simple as smaller table with bigger balls and pockets. If we compare it to other sports, I imagine professional Tennis players couldn't just jump to playing Table Tennis against semi-pros and professionals and be good from the off.

I think after say a few months of playing pool any top snooker player would be capable of beating any pool player.

Would just need to understand the nuances of a different game.

Snooker players start playing from a youngish age I wouldn't imagine the same thing happens with pool players.
