Going on a boat next week, I got really bad water glare last time, sub doesn’t agree with me. What’s the darkest type of lens available what specific type am I looking for?

You'll just need a pair of sunnies with polarised lenses - I spend a lot of time on the water and have got a pair of these, which are absolutely brilliant. If I left on the dock, I'd turn round and go back for them!

Not easy to get hold of in the UK, but any decent, comfortable pair of shades with the same sort of lenses would do the job equally as well, I'm sure.

The favourites with fishermen on the Florida Keys are Maui Jim : https://www.mauijim.com/GB/en_GB/ not cheap but apparently very effective. I've got some cheapo polaroids & they do a pretty good job.

Jims, Jims, Jims and Jims.

There are only ever 2 answers when it comes to sunglasses: Ghettis or Jims. Ghettis are the best on land, Jims are the best on water. By a country mile, nobody else comes remotely close.

The lenses and whole ethos behind Maui Jims are in a different league to anybody else for this stuff.

When you say Ghettis I assume you mean Serengetis? I have a pair of these and they're superb. Very light apparently indestructible plastic, I've had them three years and the lenses are still unmarked. Much clearer and comfier than my Raybans, which aren't even made by the original Mfr anymore.

Polarized lenses are the answer. Not difficult to find, though it might be the wrong time of year in the UK.
If you have time and wear prescription lenses you can have them made up in your Rx.

If it were me, I'd go to Boots and look at their stuff and buy a couple of pairs just in case... You are on a boat after all.

The branded ones are great, of course, it really depends on how upset you'll be when some passing fish ends up wearing your Maui Jim's and you're left with nothing for the rest of your trip.
