Just a thought I had, does anyone know how people receive the money from large scale sports events.

With the US Open paying $2.5 million to the winner and that golf tournament $10 mil, I assume they don't get a cheque and pop down to their local branch, nor a briefcase full of 50s.

Anyone have any clue?

I thought the prize might not have been so liquid, ie transfer ownership of a company with the assets into their name or some other tomfoolery they employ.

If it is just a bank transfer, hope they double check the account numbers!

Along slightly similar lines it did get me thinking what happens to the cash...

- presumably she has some sort of company that it gets paid to
- presumably fees/wages are then paid out of that to trainers, physios, image consultants etc
- I was also wondering whether the associations that support people going through the ranks get anything from it, whether there's anything written into the memberships that x% of winnings gets paid back to them

Only idle curiosity of what it must be like to have £1.8m land in your lap, and then see what may be a large %age evaporate (just like when you get paid and HMRC do their grab in a more normal job smile).

It gets handled by the management company, doesn’t get into the Bromley branch of NatWest.

Should be no problem for Emma as both her parents work in the financial world.
