Having been an avid Olympics watcher since 1970 I'd say that the completely different time zone makes difficulties inevitable. All of the different options we have now for watching on TV and internet mean we don't necessarily miss anything but probably make the confusion even worse. This time around I'm finding myself watching things where I'm not even sure whether I've already seen it.
When Olympics and football world cups are awarded my first thought is about what time it will all be on UK TV.

What Olympic Games did you watch in 1970?When Olympics and football world cups are awarded my first thought is about what time it will all be on UK TV.
My earliest memory is Tokyo 1964.

It's nothing to do with timezone though. It's simply not available in the majority on the BBC.When Olympics and football world cups are awarded my first thought is about what time it will all be on UK TV.
Discovery Plus seems to have everything well mapped out for me?

Anyway, the opening post wasn't just about the BBC. The OP also mentioned Eurosport so I assumed they have good access to see what they want to.
On the more general point, I took the opening post to be about confusion as to what was happening when and when to watch it. For me that's about time-zones rather than simply whether something is available on TV. Everything might be available but if it happens at 3am when you are asleep it's hard to keep abreast of things.
Discovery owns Europsort. In Europe we are seeing Discovery's coverage through Eurosport. I've not bothered watching any of it on Eurosport - who never seem to be able to stick to their own schedules. The on screen graphics often tell you you are watching a completely different sport to the one you are actually seeing.
