Cheers. My favourite sports event. Things like fencing, volleyball and table-tennis suddenly become super-important to me when Olympic medals are at stake. I hope the (possible/probable) lack of crowds doesn't spoil the atmosphere.

Excited for this. Evie Richards and Tom Pidcocks attempt at the XCO MTB course being my focus as a bike rider. Booked it out on my calendar. Can't wait!

Going to catch this one in the morning hopefully -
Triathlon's mixed relay makes its Olympic debut in Tokyo on Saturday (23:30 Friday until 01:30 Saturday UK time).
Hopefully they course involves starting the swim from a pontoon and the 2nd/3rd/4th members of the team launch themselves into the water...

cannot wait, a friend (bradley forbes-cryans) has been out in tokyo for over a week now, he competes in the canoe slalom (decent shout of a medal too). My main focus will be on the canoe slalom as I used to be involved and know a lot of the team, but i try and watch as much as possible!

This is the only chance that some smaller sports get to have some main stream media coverage. All the smaller sports need this as it get more people involved and hopefully spur more people on take up the sport and maybe find the future stars!

Also worth a watch is the bbc documentary (2 of 3 have been on already) about team GB/ uk sport and the history of funding/ the introduction of the national lottery to fund sport in the uk. shows the cut throat nature behind the scenes where no medals = no money for your sport, but how that also makes it difficult because how do you win medals without the funding…..

I've been watching that. Even as a 56 year old that saw it happen it's hard to take in just how unsuccessful we (the UK) were.

I hope Evie does well, but is going to be an interesting race for sure, with Rissveds coming on form and Lecomte having had the season to herself pretty much.

If Vdp is on form, the men’s race with Piddocks and Schurter is going to be a battle Royale, and the odds of that being the podium are very high.

Will also be watching the hockey, archery and the shotgun events.

Really looking forward to this and the Paralympics that follow - have a vested interest in the swimming and track events.

But also love watching the cycling/Mtb and gymnastics.

Our neighbour works in the broadcast industry and was explaining that over here we’ll have access to around 40-45 sports to watch. Which is nice cos usually it’s a week of swimming followed by a week of swimming highlights…

And both can do well; Evie is on form having come 3rd in Les Gets, on a course that didn't really suit her; Tokyo with it's short punchy climbs is more up her street - but it will be a surprise if Lecomte doesn't win. Don't discount PF-P, the only title she has never won. And defending champion Jenny Risveds seems to be in form.

Tom is still recovering from his training crash, so Les Gets didn't tell us anything; Flueckinger is the obvious favourite, but if on form MvdP can win with one blistering attack. And writing off Nino isn't sensible, even if his age is starting to tell.

Good win for team GB ladies in football this morning

In a work meeting, we were discussing what a team GB mens football team would look like. General opinion was England plus Robertson...

Amber Hill out of women’s skeet shooting having tested positive for Covid. Must be devastating, as she was a medal contender.

Robertson isn’t even the best left back in the Scotland team.

Yeah, Robertson would be a good back up for Shaw.
