Over the last week or two I have been getting back into playing golf, having not swung a club in over 10 years.
I've played a few rounds at one of the local par 3 courses and am looking forward to playing at a proper sized course next week, which got me thinking about what I need.
I've just dug my golf shoes out (an old pair of Etonic shoes) which I probably bought about 20 years ago. They still have 6 of the 14 soft spikes they're supposed to have, and I'm thinking maybe I should treat myself to a new pair.
I don't want to spend silly money (definitely less than 3 figures) but is there anything I should be looking for? I of course have the added complication that shops aren't overly keen on you trying lots of different pairs of shoes on at the moment.

I have these from decathlon for £65. Comfy, waterproof, can wear all year round and no issues so far. Rated highly by mygolfspy as well in their tests. Plus there stores are open and you can try them on.I've played a few rounds at one of the local par 3 courses and am looking forward to playing at a proper sized course next week, which got me thinking about what I need.

Take your pick. You won't go far wrong with any of the major brands. Footjoy, Underarmour and Nike would be the ones I would be looking at.

It's largely impossible to recommend an individual shoe as so much is about how well they fit your feet. As above though, you won't go far wrong with any of the major brands.
The one thing I will say is that there has been a real shift in golf shoes since you last bought a pair. These days most are spikeless, which makes walking on hard ground much nicer, and also most are leaning more towards a trainer style rather than actual shoes. These are both very positive trends in my book

Thank you. Decathlon seem to be out of stock of pretty much everything.
I was reading a bit about the new spikeless ones because I’ve not seen them before. Some articles seemed to think they were brilliant whereas some seemed to suggest they weren’t supportive or grippy enough.
Are they any good, or even better than soft spikes?
When I bought my shoes they were some of the first ones to be white trainer style, but they were still full leather so quite heavy.

I had soft spikes, and then moved to the Decathlon ones with more trainer style but still plenty of grip. I wore them all last winter and never had an issue with grip or slipping at all. If you want to wear them all year round then I would avoid the summer version. They wont offer any grip in the winter.
OP there is a dedicated golf forum within Sports that you should find useful.

If you were browsing this morning you probably wouldn't have found much of anything, I think the site has been a bit broken. Welcome back to the game.
Thank you Just been to Sports Direct (it was next to the barber) and tried a pair of Skechers on because I know they always make very comfortable shoes, but the shoe itself felt very thin with not much padding, particularly around the tongue.
I think there is an American Golf around 20 miles away, but looking on their website they don’t do a huge selection. I’m erring towards spikes and they seem to have mainly spikeless.
I don’t really want to have to order loads and then return a load, but I want to try them on first. I guess I could try some of the local pro shops.

Thanks for the recommendation. I definitely prefer white to dark colours for shoes. Maybe I'll take a trip down there and see if I can try a pair on.https://www.americangolf.co.uk/clothing-shoes/shoe...

They let me try a few pairs on at the Leeds store so fingers crossed you'll be ok. He did say that they're struggling for stock though and sizes are limited. Gear seems to be in high demand - he said some of the clubs were on up to 8 week lead timesSpike less shoes are fantastic if yiu get the right ones..
I've got 2 pairs. Footjoy Pro SL and Nike Air 270.
I've played in what can only be described as a bog in the FJ and had all the grip I could ask for. So much so, I even wore them out walking when the footpaths round here were mud and my walking boots were slipping.
The nikes I have only worn once in damp conditions, they too were absolutely fine. With the added benefit of not needing to change shoes when arriving at the course.

Another vote for Footjoy stuff generally. I've been slapping dubbin on my FJ shoes for a few years now and with the occasional re-spike they're still doing the biz. The FJ socks I bought in a moment of madness in the pro shop have turned out to be the best socks I've ever had, not just for golf either.
Went down to American Golf this evening and tried a few pairs on. These seemed the most comfortable so I bought them
