Just watched it on tv,What a monster Novikov is....one of the smallest and lightest competitors wasn't he ?
Brian Shaw was hugely disappointing and there was a guy in the heats who was 210kg and weak as.

Watching WSM is my favourite part of Christmas. The commentary humour is brilliant. Novikov was a the deserving winner. Many of the contestants seem really inconsistent across the events, doing brilliantly in one snd then bombing in the next. Great to see the dead lift record broken. How did it stand for so long?

It's annual ritual viewing in our house.

This year's felt a bit "weak", but agree about Novikov - out of nowhere really. Stoltman really should have won it, but a few really poor events put paid to that - he was immense in the events he did win.

Maybe they don't include that particular discipline in the contest very often, I don't know.
It's not a normal dead lift off the ground, it's an easier version from 18 inches

Stoltman impressed hugely, great to see these young guys coming through. If he improves his grip he may be in with a shout next year

also someone with the potential to break the record might elect not to if they feel the risk outweighs winning the competition

Have absolutely no interest in weightlifting at all and never would have tuned in but happenstanced this a few years ago now and Its quite addictive, Its really easy to get behind. Was on the stoltman fanbus of course but you just can't deny novikov.

Just wish they would show this live/as it happens instead of at Christmas... three or four years on the bounce I have heard about the winner via social media and acquaintances!

Agreed. Most annoying thing about the TV coverage.
