Could do with a few to look at/study/enjoy if anyone can recommend specific fighters, their discipline and examples of good practice?

Happy to look at anything from any discipline, formal or otherwise.

The only Nigel Pearson I can find seems to be a football manager.

smile It made more sense when it was in General Gassing.

I wish I’d got to see Sugar Ray Robinson in real-life.

Holly Holm would be my shout out.

Boxing world champion, kick boxing world champion and UFC champion.

I don’t know of anyone else in combat sports that has pinnacles 3 major disciplines.

She’s a consummate professional too

Always liked Ramon Dekkers (Muay Thai). Lovely blend of power and technique.

I would suggest Anderson Silva, in particular his two fights (vs Forrest Griffen and Stephan Bonnar) at light heavyweight (205lbs) as he was a middleweight (185lbs) and these fights demonstrate how technique and timing can overcome power and strength.

Forrest Griffin was a former world champion - watch how Silva finishes him. Also watch how Silva fights with his back against the cage vs Stephan Bonnar - it's like something out of a Bruce Lee film.

Conor McGregor would also be worth studying. Putting the showmanship to aside, his relaxed precision technique is incredible to watch and his record is very impressive for a 5ft 9in 145lb fighter (wins against Holloway, Poirier, Mendes and Aldo at 145lbs, Alvarez at 155lbs, Nate Diaz and Cerrone at 170lbs).

Watch Lomachenko training. Incredible balance, footwork, accuracy. There are also some excellent videos of Mayweather in the gym. The guy works hard, really hard.

Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank Snr, Joe Calzaghe, Holly Holm, Vasyl Lomachenko, Oleksandr Usyk.

All have a huge skill base and/or the attitude I love to see in any competitor.

Some fantastic fighters in here, we've started to lean towards boxing more though.

Favourites in MMA, martial arts specifically? I'll kick it off with Bas Rutten for devastating kicking and open hand strikes, GSP for being a truly symmetrical fighter and Morio Higaonna for his dedication to incredible conditioning as a life long practitioner.

People may laugh, but when he competed in MMA, there were some videos of Brock Lesnar training old wrestling drills and cardio work. Back then he was incredibly agile, explosive and quick for such a heavily muscled guy.

no i'd agree with this, Lesnar was credible. It's always particularly unnerving to see someone as big as that be able to move fast as well.

I actually think his achievements were undervalued. This guy was a division 1 wrestling champ before doing the entertainment stuff, and yes, he got beat by Mir (please remember, Mir was a dangerous dude), but to have the ride he had in a sport of mixed disciplines and actually win the title was pretty impressive. A fighter like Cain was always gonna give Lesnar fits but I maintain that a fully fit Lesnar would have ragdolled Overeem. We will never know though!!

For MMA I'd recommend looking at Demetrious Johnson, the way he blends the different disciplines and is so refined technically is amazing, the guy can do everything
