Being stuck at home is doing our 17 year old son no good at all... he started doing MMA a few months back and has been doing really well, training nearly every night and loving it. He's on the autistic spectrum so both the routine and aggression release have been really good for him.

We've been doing pad work in the garden but it's not really enough; a punchbag would be ideal so earlier today the missus and I sat down to look online, thinking it would be an easy job to find and order one... but no!

Found one that seemed one on the Argos website (about £70) and a wall bracket (about £15)… went to order for delivery and of course no available stock. Pretty much the same story everywhere else we looked until having to give up.

Ideally looking for something like a 4' punchbag, roughly in the 20 - 25kg weight range. Will also be needing a wall bracket as I'll be hanging it outside; unfortunately there's nowhere suitable for us to hang up a ceiling mounted bag. A freestanding one might work (not a cheapo £15 inflatable though!) but I'm definitely leaning towards a hanging one.

So, can anyone help / advise where we might be able to order one from? Say a total budget of approx. £120 max to include both the bag and bracket.

Many thanks in advance!

PS wasn't really sure where to post this. Apologies if it's in the wrong place; feel to move it if necessary.

Thanks for the replies... started out earlier today searching on ebay; clicked on a number of advertised items only for a message to come up saying they were out of stock. I'll have another look later, it's obviously going to be a major task!

We're about the only people on the planet who have never succumbed to facebook. One of these days one or other of us will no doubt join up, but not just yet.

30 seconds on Amazon and found dozens. Plenty of bags and plenty of wall mounts. Not necessarily being sold as a package but well within your budget.

Just type in wall mounted punch bags

Army surplus store and get an old kit bag / Bergen and fill the bottom with sand and something softer at the top. We did that as kids but used too much sand and nearly broke our wrists.

Thanks for the further replies.

We’ll try Amazon again tomorrow, maybe gave up too easy today when things didn’t go quite as planned (I hate shopping even on the internet, if I don’t find exactly what I want straight away it’s toys out the pram time!)

If still no joy tomorrow it might well be a home made jobbie as per caddyshack’s suggestion...

Try the RDX website mate, decent quality and a good price.

Got the bags down our boxing gym and they’re all standing after years of abuse.

Don’t let your lad use the mits that come with it if you get that one though they’ll damage his hands in the long run.

Cheers for that... the (ideal) bag we found on the Argos site was an RDX one, but out of stock... that led us to search the RDX site, a really good specialist site and obviously selling proper stuff; unfortunately everything suitable was also out of stock! There must be a whole lot of stressed out people whacking punchbags up and down the country laugh

He's got his own gloves so no problems there, point taken and appreciated though.

Just been back on both ebay and Amazon and got absolutely nowhere... at first there seems to be loads of choice but prices are all over the place, descriptions written in Chinglish etc. Looking at some of the photos you can almost see some of these things falling apart before they even get hit!

…. Apologies just seen you've put a link in your post, didn't notice that before typing all this out. Will take a look and update later.

Many thanks for posting!

DAMMIT!!! Looks absolutely perfect but out of stock! banghead

Thanks anyway, much appreciated... hopefully when things 'get back to normal' as people keep saying, at least we now know a decent website where we can get any MMA gear that he needs, so every cloud and all that...

For the time being though it's back to the drawing board

Ok... geezers boxing seems to be sold out of pretty much everything; familiar story.

However, Sugar Ray's has loads of choice; probably 6 or 7 different bags, all available in 4ft size, all within approx. £50 - £80... all of which is ideal.

The one thing that bothers me a bit is that all of these bags are showing stock levels of between 990 - 1000. Everyone else is completely sold out of punchbags; surely they can't be sitting on those levels of stock in the UK??

Even without the current Covid-19 situation those stock levels are insane so I presume they're actually sat in China / Thailand or wherever?
I don't mind ordering and waiting especially given the current crisis; we're obviously all in this for the long haul so no worries there.

Anyway I'm going to email them just to try and clarify exactly what the stock & delivery situation is.

Again, many thanks for the replies; feel like I'm getting somewhere now.

EDIT... email sent, will update the thread when I get a reply cool

My bag from sugar rays is coming tomorrow and I ordered it on Sunday so it’s not to backed up for delivery by the looks of it.

If it helps, and you can collect, I've got a 5-foot bag, and some kick pads / focus mitts that you can have for nothing. Somewhere near Nottingham.

Really appreciate the offer but unfortunately I’m about 200 miles away.

I reckon if you put your gear up on gumtree or similar you’ll get a good price and a quick sale... no retailers seem to have any stock.

No reply from Sugar Ray’s yet but early days yet. Hopefully they’ll get back to me by the end of the week.

I've pretty much given up on getting a punchbag now.

No reply from Sugar Ray's (disappointing), and I really don't like the look of most of the stuff on ebay & Amazon; mostly looks cheap & nasty and the reviews don't inspire a lot of confidence either.

Not to worry, time on my hands plus a bit of resourcefulness... we have an old freestanding punchball that's been sat dismantled in the shed for a while. The lad wanted it at head height but it doesn't adjust that high. Also found an old car tyre whilst clearing out the shed, put the two together and bingo! Punchball base filled with water (can't get any sand at the moment) and the whole caboodle sat on top of the car tyre... Perfect biggrin... and free as well!

Still doing the pad work regular as clockwork every day, and there's no chance of any weeds growing in the area of garden we use either hehe
