These Hoka Arahi 2 have done 266 miles, so not excessive by any means. I lace them using the heel hook method which should prevent heel movement and still they wear like this.

This is my first pair of Hoka’s, I usually wear ASICS or Saucony.
Anyone else seen wear like this?

I've had wear on shoes of various brands to that degree, but not at such a low mileage. Having said that it wouldn't really bother me. If your foot is wearing it away then you're better if this happens, rather than losing skin instead. I'd just wear them until they are ready for the bin, but think twice whether I want to buy them again

Agreed, better than losing skin indeed. They will probably last long enough for me to be happy I’ve had my monies worth.
And I’ve already broken in the next pair, another pair of Saucony Guide ISO.

Other than that I was really happy with them as a distance shoe.

Never used Hoka but get the impression they may not last as long Vs other brands. I think that's fine as long as the mileage you do get fulfils your requirements of the shoe. Wear n tear aside Hoka has built a huge following and the Rincon is tempting me.
I currently use a rotation of ASICS, Mizuno and Nike. The Mizuno are comfy and the fit is great, they are also built like tanks so can feel a bit clunky when the legs are fatigued.
