It would really depend on the depth/strength of tides in the areas that you fish, but I would probably go for a 20 - 30lb class outfit.

I've just renewed my boat gear and have gone for Penn Fathom's & Warfare's coupled with Ugly Stick Elite rods (also a Cardinal SX fixed spool for the lighter lure fishing) - all of which I can highly recommend.

My fishing is light wrecking/reef so I use 8 - 12lb class with 20lb braid for inshore and 12 - 20lb class with 30lb braid for heavier wreck fishing.

By the sounds of things you'd probably benefit from a slightly heavier outfit if you're targeting bigger cod & tope!

Well, it would depend on your budget really, but you won't go far wrong with a 20 - 30lb class Ugly Stick GX2/Elite coupled with a Penn Warfare 30 or Fathom 30.

If you're fishing at depth or if the tides are running, you'll definitely want to use braid, but use a rubbing leader for fishing wrecks - whilst braid is brilliant for its low diameter, it's abrasion resistance is useless!

For that setup, I'd probably use a 40 - 50lb braid and a mono leader of 5lb less breaking strain (about two rod lengths long).
