Paddling on the River Severn.
Discussion
Anyone done any kayaking on the Severn.
I'm thinking of putting a SOT in somewhere south of Shrewsbury, and paddling through Ironbridge - I really fancy going underneath the bridge.
But where to get in an out - most trips have an access point at Ironbridge, but it would be cool to get in higher up, and paddle through the town, getting out lower down.
Any ideas anyone?

Can't answer the question but English rivers are owned by the owners of the bank so even if you can find somewhere with public access to get in and out you can't paddle down the river unless you have permission from the land owners.
Obviously if it's just you and no one's looking you will probably get away with it - unless it's used for fishing and then you'll get abuse from the worm drowners.

hmmm, I think the argument on rights of navigation is still ongoing and perhaps no quite as cut and dried as you make out. While the owner of the bank also owns the river bed, do they also own the water that runs in their section of the river? Having an hour to spare at Shrewsbury station, waiting for a connecting train, there are posters advertising, paddle boarding in Shrewsbury, so yes, I imagine you could start from there.
However, over the years, having spent time fishing on the Severn, I'd make damn sure about the weather and river conditions, before you set off.
Crossing the Severn on Sunday, the water was barrelling through at a very high rate of knots, I'm certain you wouldn't want to be bobbing along in those conditions.
