Our Powertees (auto pop up tees) on the golf range are up for renewal.

I was hoping to get some insight from other range users about what they thought of them.

Would it bother you if they were taken out and replaced with a decent mat and new balls.

Do you think you would hit less balls without them?

Thanks for you help, I have asked some of our range users but after some more views.

I wouldn't say auto tees influence the number of balls I hit down the range.
Though I do like being able to select the tee height rather than having to hunt around the range for one the correct height.

I'd be just as happy with some decent mats and balls and a basket of tees next to the mat to choose from.

Auto tees all the way.. unless there was a difference in price?

I opt for a 100 ball bucket on my infrequent trips to the range. If I had to bend down to tee up each time I’d probably only go for 50.

Out of interest, where in the country are you and what’s the cost of 100 balls? In Bristol I’m looking at £9, in South Wales £4-5!

Thanks for the replies - 2 different view points!

We are based near Wolverhampton and charge £6 for 90.

I'd prefer auto tees that you can adjust the height on.

Having said that, I wouldn't use more balls because of them.

If you don't have them though you MUST provide enough different length tees to choose from! Nothing worse than wanting to hit driver but not having a tee to do it.

I would choose auto tees above a normal mat, but mainly as you can guarantee the variable tees have all gone missing from your bay and you spend 20mins searching round for one. I suspect most people would go for auto tees.

Do you have decent targets out in the range, or just flags?

One range near me hasn’t got power tees, but has invested in Top Tracer to be installed which is very good. Also they have some island greens out at 100 yards for practising approach play, and plenty of smaller flags around the 50yard mark to help out with chipping.

I'm with Challo, so long as there are always various height rubber tees available for the mats I don't care for the auto-tees.

I only use them for the driver and for that I just trap a ball between my foot and the driver head to lift it onto a tee if it's not an auto tee so no bending down needed anyway.

I would rather have better balls and better matts than power tees.

Someone needs to work on angle of attack I think.

How much do the power tee setups cost?

That's a lovely 'dollar bill' sized divot there, great ball striking...provided it came after the ball hehe

The most important thing to me when I'm at the range is decent balls, a decent mat and a variety of targets. I've been to ranges with auto-tees and they've always been ignored by me and most others I see on the range.

Oh and heaters, they're nice for the winter thumbup

Op, my local range used power tees, always breaking down, balls getting stuck etc, people kicking the button to bring the ball up, then they tried tru strike (seemed to wear out quickly).

Now they get a decent square mat, no markings, and once a week rotate it 90 deg for fair wear, replaced as and when it shows wear and tear, (the range charge £5.00 for 40 balls, or £500 a yr unlimited).

If I had a range, id be looking to invest in trackman range.. not power tees, that will get them coming back, id even go.

Personally I struggle with hitting of mats, so I use the grass range at my club, but quality of mat I think is everything.

Just back from a lunchtime hit at my local driving range and I would have loved a way to track my shots. Limited targets and a wide open space its hard to judge the dispersion of my shots. Toptracer or Trackman would be ideal.

Trackman or CG Quad would be amazing... but at ~16K a pop its not economically viable in most situations.

Trackman range is normally 2/3 systems (arghh). They are doing lease deals at the moment, and people access on there own iPad/iPhone/smartphone, it can track dozens of bays....

Normal practice can be done as well team games etc, capture the flag.. check the video I posted above..

Cool... no idea how that would work but looks great. TBH its club data that I would want and I dont think that system would do it.

Befriend a pro who has one, I take two (who own one each) of them to London twice a year on the beer, Then I get free access when things start to go wrong hehe

Also did my trackman master course on line, interesting stuff!
