My youngest (12) is keen to progress (he's a beginner) and wants me to learn too (I don't play - yet).

He's been on a fairly informal "tennis camp" this week and his coach told him he needs to get a better racket (current one is a beaten up, bottom of the range Wilson). So we'd probably just look to get 2 of the same (he's almost as tall as I am, so sizing shouldn't be an issue).

Where should we start, for something we can learn with but that won't hold us back? What should we look for, as a minimum, in a "starter" racket?

(we have a local court to practice, and will get some coaching to get us started)

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Cheers, Dave

Hard to say apart from get one with a built in bridge rather than a plastic connection thing. https://www.itftennis.com/technical/rackets-and-st...

I still haven't decided on the best racket after several years of play. It depends on his strength as different rackets have different weights and weight distribution which can affect things like power, control, sweet spot. You can stick lead weights on to change things, too. And then the string will have a different effect depending on tautness (which can be changed) and thickness. Can't really test in a shop either.

Best bet is to go to one of those sorts of sessions he went to before and see if he can try a few people's rackets to see what it's like playing with them.
