Any other hockey fans?

Having won their group, team GB are moving up to the top level to play against Canada, Russia, Sweden, USA etc. Its a huge achievement. Anyone follow their local teams on here? What are your thoughts, do you think the GB team getting some exposure (less than Id like to see, SPOTY snub etc) will help the domestic game?

I have definitely seen a resurgence of fans coming to watch, though we (Bracknell Bees) had a bad time for a while and we are starting to pull some decent results, so might not be representative of what other teams are seeing.

For those wondering, if you have a rink, you have a team (mostly), go and have a look!

Not holding out much hope for us staying up.

As a kid I watched a few Blackpool Seagulls games.

I used to have a season ticket at Manchester Storm till they folded and then for the Phoenix until they moved out of of the MEN arena. I did go to a couple of games when they were at Deeside and also a few games when they finally got a new home at Altrincham. When they went nomadic again and played games out of a rink in Blackpool I didn’t bother going. Been to one Storm game since they reformed,

I do miss it but don’t think I could afford all the travelling to Manchester I was doing in those few years I was a season ticket holder, plus I don’t particularly like the Altrincham rink, don’t allow you to stand and the sight lines are atrocious. I might take a game in before the season ends.

It all starts today for GB with a game against Germany.

Should be on Freesports from about 16:10.

Our other games over the next 10 days are against Slovakia, Finland, Canada, USA, Denmark and France

We need to get results against Denmark and/or France for any chance of avoiding relegation.

How many of the world's top player actually compete in the world cup? It seems strange to run the tournament while the NHL play-offs are still in progress.

OMG woohoo

We've only gone and done it, we've stayed up, so its Switzerland next year, still playing against the big boys.

We lost 6 out of 7, and have just won the final game (winner stays up game) against France in overtime 4:3, after being 3:0 down.

Congratulations GB!
What a game. The GB boys showed just as much spirit and backbone as Liverpool and Spurs earlier in the month.
Pretty good tournament for them really, started by pushing the Germans colse and a creditable loss to USA. Couple of hidings along the way, which were only to be expected.
My son now wants a GB hockey shirt to go with his Czech one.
Was in Bratislava yesterday with him to see the Czechs beat Austria, great atmosphere with probably 95% of the crowd being Czech.

Congrats from Finland. Your team have played really well. Not a easy team to win. Hats off.

Finland winning it all with a team that was dubbed 'the worst team in the history', what a sensation! 1980 and now 2019 will be forever remembered in the ice hockey world.

Awesome win for Finland, was cheering for them all through the tournament.
Fantastic achievement, no NHL players against a Canadian team with nothing but NHL players.
Anttila was a giant in more ways than one and Lankinen had to be close to MOM after that 3rd period.

Was in Bratislava on Saturday for the Czech Canada semi-final. Very disappointing display from the Czechs, but the Canadians looked very good defensively. Always gave the Finns a chance after their run to the final, especially after their victory over the Russians.

The Finnish fans were great around the stadium between the two semis. Very happy for them.
