Evening Gents,

I've currently got a Garmin "swim" watch. A one trick pony but it does the job very well and all of the data iscorrectly there to see, after syncing, on Garmin connect, no issues at all.

The problem is that it won't sync properly with strava, a known metadata problem apparently. In Strava it logs the activity in 1999, not 2018. It is said that you can edit the file resolve this but I've neither the ability or arsed'nest to do this.

So, I'm hawking for recommendations as to what is the best / cheapest swim capable watch? I'm not a tri-athalon'ist and have an Edge 520 for the bike so don't want or need an all singing and dancing £500 jobby.

Failing that, does anyone know an easy work round to fix the metadata issue?

I can't offer a fix, but I have a Garmin 735 that I use daily for running, swimming and walking and I've not had the issue described. I simply told the Garmin app on my iPhone about my Strava account and it updates Strava as soon as it syncs each time. The reason for me posting is that it sounds like there's clearly something wrong, as surely our watches should work the same in this respect?

I had a Garmin swim yonks ago but that was before I had a Strava account so not sure on the metadata issue. Shame that if there is a known issue neither Garmin or Strava can fix it.

Most watches that record swim laps are multi sport watches that you don't want. The only other swim only ones I know are the Finis Swim Sense and Swimovate Poolmate

I have no experience of these. I suspect the surrounding software for these is going to be poor in comparison to Garmin.

The other option is to look for an older factory recon multi-sport watch. I got a 910XT for about £110 a few years back. Although the software on the device for pool swimming is better on the Swim that the 910. The 920 is on par.

Thank you both.

Looks like I'm going to stick with the gracefully aging garmin swim. It works perfectly but is now so old that it is unlikely that the software / metadata glitch will ever be fixed with strava.

A real shame.

If you want any info on the aforementioned Finis Swimsense, just ask. I had one for a few years before getting my Garmin. The Finis is also now for sale as I don't use it anymore.
