Phil Mickleson in the 2018 US Open
Discussion
For anyone that plays/follows golf...
What Phil Mickleson did yesterday was wrong (IMHO). Having hit a moving ball (to prevent it rolling off the green) he gained a distinct advantage. The two shot penalty he incurred was far too soft.
I understand that it may well have been within the rules of the game but certainly not within the spirit of it.

Phil is and always has been a fraud.

Agree and something that hopefully the news rules coming out will prevent in the future. What Phil Mickleson did yesterday was wrong (IMHO). Having hit a moving ball (to prevent it rolling off the green) he gained a distinct advantage. The two shot penalty he incurred was far too soft.

He should have been disqualified but he knew the rules!
I think he got off very lightly.
It's weird that if he stopped it, or purposefully nudged/changed it's direction, that would be a disqualification, but playing it back towards the hole was a 'double hit'. Funny rule. Cheeky interpretation.
I know it's against the spirit, but pro sports is pro sports. Use rules to your advantage, but you can't expect the crowd to go with you. Bit like an underarm serve in tennis. (although this was worse IMO, Very atypical to do this in golf, you do see underarms more often in tennis, but the crowd will boo)

Maybe the solution isn't to have a new rule called 15-9 or something, but rather 'Phil's Rule', awarding it for his lauded status in the game - Stating you can't hit a ball until it has come to rest, especially if you need to run after it to catch it up. Golf has a long memory, it will never be forgotten.
