Darts legend Eric Bristow has died of a heart attack this evening.

Happened at the Liverpool Echo Arena at the latest round of the PDC Premier League.

I got into darts before I was 10 and was a fan of Eric Bristow.

I played a leg with him and Alan Warriner once at an exhibition night. I partnered Eric. I threw a ton, went for a high five and missed.

Came across as a lovely guy.

Very sad news indeed, and another of those celebrities/sports stars from my era that have been taken too soon!

While he had the same self-confidence (arrogance) as Phil Taylor, I never really felt anti-Bristow as I did Taylor. By all accounts, Sir Eric was a friendly affable man off the oche as many are testifying to today. Must have been really hard for Keith Deller to do that tribute on stage last night, not long after he heard.

Darts being so big these days owes as much to Eric, John Lowe, big Cliff Lazarenko etc as it does Taylor.

RIP Sir Eric, and thanks for the memories.
