Hi guys,

My five year old already does football and swimming. However, I was thinking about having him do a contact sport so it can add discipline and lower the pent up energy he has.

I qualified as a blackbelt in Shotakan Karate when I was very young. It helped me a great deal.

Judo, Taekwondo, anything else to consider?

Thanks

Snowboarding.

Helps develop various physical skills, sociable, requires quite a bit of self discipline and focus, especially as he progresses...and it's fun and a good life skill to learn early, if you're the adventurous type.

Fencing can be good for this

Boxing too but depends how his mum feels about him ending up in a ring with likely councilistas

Why not this then?

Also, try dodgeball.

My niece does fencing and loves it. Very technical, competitive and slightly different to the standard stuff

Rugby. It's a sport you have to play as a team. Not too physical at that age and the RFU development is first rate.

If he is getting plenty of exercise try changing tack and teaching him how to get some down time with reading.

Will definitely be worth it long term.
