For anyone who missed it:
1. TV coverage shows Cameron Bancroft rubbing the ball with the palm of his right hand and then transferring something from his palm to his pocket.
2. After seeing the incident on the stadium big screens the Australian coach, Darren Lehman, radios to the 12th man who speaks to Bancroft during the next drinks break.
3. After speaking to the 12th man, Bancroft removes a small piece of yellow card or paper from his pocket and tucks it into his underwear.
4. The Umpires, who didn't see the initial incident but are now wondering why Bancroft is being shown on the big screen (and being booed by the crowd) ask Bancroft to show them what he has in his pocket.
5. Bancroft takes his black sunglasses cloth/bag out of his pocket and shows it to the Umpires.
It doesn't look good as not only is there no innocent explanation for Bancroft's behaviour there is also evidence that the Australian coach took steps to try and cover it up.

Not only have they been accused of it . They`ve admitted it. Pre-planned by the senior players.
Gonna be some fallout from that.

I'm not sure I believe Smith when he says he and a group of senior players planned it.
Surely one or more of them would have had the integrity to stop it.
I reckon he's gone in with that to both protect Bancroft and assume collective responsibility, perhaps hoping/believing that they can't sack half a team.
Whatever happens his captaincy is toast.

It is one of the strangest and dumbest confessions I can remember!
Smith haas just thrown his career in the bin, Bancroft’s, everyone in that senior leadership team or whatever and Lehrman’s career.
There can only be mass resignations now or CA will be forced to sack them. It’s madness.

I mean, just listen to them.

Can't believe he's attempting to cling on to the captaincy.

In simple terms, “Changing the condition of the ball” is a level 2 offence under the ICC Code of Conduct, which means the maximum penalty is 100% of match fee plus a one test ban.
In this case I don’t think they were successful; I’m not sure where “attempting to change the condition of the ball” will sit, but obviously a lesser offence.
That said, if Bancroft was dishonest when answering questions from the umpires the trouble may be deeper.

That press conference will come to haunt Smith, the 2 of them brazenly admitting to just about the worst offence in the game without, apparently, having any idea of the seriousness of what they were saying.Smith haas just thrown his career in the bin, Bancroft’s, everyone in that senior leadership team or whatever and Lehrman’s career.

The events of today will be forensically picked apart as will everything Smith has claimed to have happened, who was involved and when, what was said and by whom.
I strongly suspect all is not as has been claimed.
As an Australian the team don't represent me or the millions of fans that follow the game. Given that it was pre-meditated this will stick to Smith for ever and he should be stood down as Captain at the very least. There is nothing that he can ever do now in his career to remove the stain.
Also Lehmann looked really shifty when he worked out something was up. He tried to covertly radio it down to the 12th man, who just happened to then need to take a helmet on the ground and pass the message on for what was surely a "get rid of the evidence" message.
A really dark day for Cricket in general, but just about every team has this type of incident in their history England (1994), India (2001), Pakistan (2006&2013, 2016).
The penalty should be severe, even if it does set the Nation's cricket back years. Stamp on it and send the message, otherwise it will dog the game for years to come.

What a shame that someone didn’t speak out and made them see sense before this happened.
!
You’d think someone in the “leadership group” would have said “Aw look, Stevo, that’s cheating, why don’t we just stick to the underarm bowling and taking money for giving the “weather forecast” to the Indian betting sites?” !
