Women's Ashes?

I expect this may be viewed as controversial but....

I can't help but question the way the women cricket gets the Ashes tag applied to it.

I wholly understand the drive for equality but I cannot find any history to justify the name being given to their series. I personally feel it cheapens the intended aim.

So, I wondered what others felt. Does it work or should more effort have been put into creating a separate identity for the series?
