I've discovered a brilliant all-in-one product called Ballistol which a lot of the American's use to clean their Firearms so I ordered some. It's a cleaner, lubricator and protector so no faffing about with a separate cleaner and lube like I have used previously.

My cleaning routine for firearm cleaning is:
1) Spray ballistol down the barrel and let it soak
2) Spray a little ballistol on a spare toothbrush and brush all the intricate hard to reach areas
3) Spray a little bit on a cotton patch and rub the intricate areas and also the outside of the firearm
4) Use another clean cotton patch to remove excess from the outside of the firearm
5) Run a bore snake down the barrel a few times

That's it basically. That's all you need to use and it's what I've found works best. Occasionally I may spray a little bit on a cotton bud to get into a tricky area or to run it along a groove etc.
