Just goes to prove the point - be wary of fking with the Russians.
No it doesn't. It just proves how pathetically impotent the Russians really are.Going around antagonising some of the most powerful nations and sports bodies in the world is hardly likely to persuade them change their attitude towards you, is it?.

No, but it shows alot of the people condemning the Russians are just as guilty. Its just that they had a doctors note, so its ok. Going around antagonising some of the most powerful nations and sports bodies in the world is hardly likely to persuade them change their attitude towards you, is it?.
And if recent results have shown anything, most if not all US track athletes are as bad or worse than the Russians. The only exception really is the US government weren't involved.
Have any of you lot actually looked at what these TUEs were for, what performance advantage they might give etc?
One of these "leaks" is for Ritalin. Last time I checked, the adnd kid was likely to be a skinny dweeb type, not a muscle bound jock.
Of all the leaks I googled, only 1 looked potentially performance enhancing - as a potential side effect was more glucose in the blood (froome's I think). The same said drug was on the official "essential drugs for basic healthcare" list - so it's not quite cut and dried..
There's a huge difference between taking a prescription with permission, and cheating like the ruskies did. One has to presume that their athletes can use the TUE system just as much as any other nation. They didn't do that, they had a state sponsored systematic doping plan. The difference is equivalent to the separation between newly oushing the envelope, and flat removing fuel filters and ordering crashes. One is against the spirit of the competition to some, the other is blatent cheating to any observer.

Not every drug taken is getting ripped though. iirc a few Olympics ago a Malaysian (maybe) shooter was stripped of a medal because he took propranolol. Which slowed down his heart rate, making him calmer and steadier for his shooting. Also used for high blood pressure, panic attacks etc.
And some of the 'OK' drugs being taken, may be to hide others on the list.
I've not read the list yet or am I a pharmacist who knows what every last one does.

Surely by definition every drug taken is taken to improve your performance, make you better?
Quite astonishing how many top athletes suffer from Asthma.
I'm sure a few puffs before a race clears the airways no end, it certainly does for me.
wasn't one of the asthma drugs used in Bodybuilding years ago????Quite astonishing how many top athletes suffer from Asthma.

My interpretation of the WADA TUE rules says that if it was known to benefit, it wouldn't be allowed under TUE..
Quintana knows all about Froome's TUE. What does he criticise in the heat of defeat? A power meter. No mention of the TUE (which is short lived).
Don't get me wrong, cheats of all forms need banning for life. I'm just not sure that this witch hunt against Biles, Williams(s) Froome et all is correct. I'd rather see proper cheaters like Gatlin and Dwain Chambers hounded out of the sport than people on TUEs.

British athletes must contact their national governing body or follow UK Anti-Doping (Ukad) guidance before applying for a TUE.
There are strict criteria for one to be granted:
The athlete would suffer significant health problems without taking the substance;
It would not be significantly performance-enhancing;
There is no reasonable therapeutic alternative to its use;
The need to use it is not due to prior use without a TUE.
Ukad says it has "a number of robust controls in place to make it as difficult as possible" for athletes to misuse the system.
I'm not a doctor - but if Froome's prescription was in any way equivalent to Armstrong's EPO, would the other pro teams not be kicking up an immense fuss? It's been common knowledge since what? 2003? 2004? It was even discussed in the media in 2005.There are strict criteria for one to be granted:

Ritalin improves alertness,productivity and concentration. Yeah I can't think how those things might be good for elite athletes. One of these "leaks" is for Ritalin. Last time I checked, the adnd kid was likely to be a skinny dweeb type, not a muscle bound jock.

More leaks being announced, I bet there're a few people sweating! So we know that Wiggins was shooting up before each of his Grand Tour rides with Triamcinolone Acetonide (nothing wrong in that, of course, if it's a legitimate tue); however I don't know how it chimes with Sky's 'no syringe' policy which they were particularly vocal about. In fact, just days after one of his injections, on 29 June 2011, Wiggins was most outspoken about other teams' uses of syringes for performance enhancing and recovery. All very odd.
I've just done a quick check on the effects of Triamcinolone Acetonide, and it's a particularly potent corticosteroid, it induces rapid and lasting weight loss, increased airflow to the lungs, with no loss of power. In fact, in some cases it actually increases it by up to 7%. Again, what use is this to a professional cyclist?

Yeah, because people not on it aren't really paying attention when trying to win a gold medal. They must hate it when mid tumble and think "st! It's bin night. Must remember to ask Derek next door to put it out for me". Oh bks, I've fluffed the landing. mcelliott said:
