A UK doctor has implied that he provided over 150 British professional athletes with performance enhancing drugs.

Footballers, tennis players, cyclists and apparently a cricket player.

I'd love to know who, do we think we'll ever find out?

In the snippet I read earlier - cannot remember where - it stated that all the drugs were administered to deal with injusires only.

No idea if that makes things better for the sportspeople involved!

Is anyone really surprised by this anymore? Professional athletes take drugs. Some get caught.

I'm sure there will be plenty to argue that there are honest sportsmen and women who only take the 'right kind' of drugs, but as a complete outsider, the image of professional sports is not a good one.

Yeah, I read that too.

I hope it's just a story to sell papers and give the new Sports/Culture Secretary some air time rather than a genuine scandal...

There is a sports jorno chap on Twitter tearing a few holes in the story. This is what he is saying:

"From Sunday Times: "Despite Bonar’s claims, The Sunday Times has no independent evidence Bonar treated the players."

"The doctor at the centre of the Sunday Times doping scandal seems to be a flaky liar

It amazes me that anyone thinks that professional sportsmen are clean anyway, they may well pass drugs tests but I like to call them 'non clean'.

Maybe I'm looking for something that isn't there, it is a Sunday after all and the other papers haven't had their chance to dig into this story but does anyone else get the impression that this is being swept under the carpet a little bit?

It just seems to be really quiet regarding this story and the footballers involved?

Long time lurker, first post! smile

If it's true, should we get ready for legal action from those relegated?

Legal action against their own doctors for not providing (good enough) drugs? For any club to sue, they'd need to be very very confident all their players were clean and with spotless records...

First impressions for me was of a 'look at me' type doctor who just wants to be famous or infamous. The doctor in question comes across as desperate fo recognition regardless of what kind. Secondly whilst The Times have no proof as they say, I sincerely doubt they would have it as their lead story without some sort of certainty ? No smoke as they say... Interesting days ahead.

No, against the teams who beat them and who may have had cheats playing for them.

Risky strategy if their players aren't squeaky clean...

Indeed, anyone who thinks any professional sport is clean is deluding themselves.
