I have a Garmin 305 that has been a bit of a pain not starting up and taking a while to get a signal, now the on/off button has fallen out. So I am looking for a replacement. The running shop that gives my cubs good deals and is staffed by my club mates says a Tomtom Runner 2 would do the trick.

I want a heart rate monitor, pace, laps and to put maps on strava. Over to the panel.

I think you have been unlucky as I have a couple of pieces of Garmin kit and they have been ace. I have a Forerunner 301 which must be over 10 years old and still works. USB charging is a bit iffy but otherwise fine.

The on-line tool is pretty good as well although they keep buggering about with the upload facility.

Do you just want it for running? One of the mid-level garmins would do the trick as would the tom tom you mentioned. Garmin having been making sports stuff for years whereas Tom Tom are a more recent entrant and I don't their stuff is as inventive.
